B&B La Casa dei Tintori
Florence, ItalyYou know what’s funny about staying at B&B La Casa dei Tintori? The name literally means “house of the dyers” – and you’re right there on Corso dei Tintori where they actually used to dye fabric back in medieval times. I mean, Florence is full of places trading on history, but this one feels authentic in a way that’s hard to fake. It’s this beautifully restored building that somehow manages to feel both elegant and genuinely lived-in.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Florence like someone who actually lives here rather than just hitting the tourist circuit. You’re in Santa Croce, which means you can walk to the basilica in about three minutes, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of neighborhood spots that make you feel like you’ve discovered something. There’s this little enoteca around the corner where locals grab their evening wine, and the morning sounds aren’t tourist chatter – they’re actual Florentines heading to work. The rooms themselves have that thing where everything looks effortless but you know someone put serious thought into every detail. High ceilings, original features they’ve preserved really well, and – this matters more than you’d think – actual storage space and good lighting for getting ready.
What really won me over was how the owners run the place. They’re not trying to be your best friend, but they know their city inside and out. When I asked about dinner recommendations, I didn’t get the usual touristy places – instead, I got directions to a trattoria two neighborhoods over where I was literally the only non-Italian in the room. The breakfast setup is small but thoughtful, with actual good coffee and local pastries rather than the industrial stuff you get at bigger hotels. Fair warning though – if you’re someone who needs a full concierge service or wants to roll in at 2 AM without planning ahead, this might not be your speed. It’s more intimate than that, which is either perfect or potentially annoying depending on what you’re after. The building itself is quiet (those thick old walls help), and while you’re central enough to walk everywhere, you’re just off the main drag so you’re not dealing with crowds right outside your window. Parking is typical Florence – basically impossible – but they’ll sort you out with directions to nearby garages if you’re driving. Honestly, with a 9.3 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, and after staying there I get why people keep coming back.

Guest Reviews
The B&B is perfectly located in the city centre, you can reach everything easily by foot.
The B&B itself is very authentic and beautiful. The hosts help you out, whatever you need and the breakfast is very good as well.
We will come back! Alla prossima!
What could be improved: Everything was good :)
What could be improved: No screen on the window to keep mosquitos out.
The location is great, pictures set clear expectations for what to expect from each of the rooms (we needed separate beds, so that part was important and hard to figure out with many other hotels). We also loved the breakfast.
What could be improved: The bed could be a little longer and sturdier... 2m tall people will have difficulty sleeping in it.
What could be improved: We like everything!
If you want an authentic Italian experience, then I absolutely recommend Case Dei Tintori!!!
What could be improved: It wasn't an issue for me but I can imagine for those that are super light sleepers, IF you have a neighbor in one of the other rooms and they snore or cough, you can hear them IF you are in the Blue Room (where we stayed).
Also, if you're American then just know that an Italian breakfast if not like a heavy American breakfast. I was fine with our breakfast since I usually just have a coffee to-go and don't eat until noon at home anyways but if you like a "Waffle House/IHOP" style Americana breakfast, just be sure to let Riccardo and Lavinia know and I am sure they'll do what they can to prepare for you a similar breakfast.
We enjoyed everything so no complaints from us!
