B&B Il Senesino
Siena, ItalyYou know what struck me first about B&B Il Senesino? It’s right there on Via Garibaldi – and I mean literally steps from where the evening passeggiata happens, but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The building itself has that weathered Sienese stone thing going on, the kind where you can almost feel centuries of history in the walls. When I walked in, there was this immediate sense of… I don’t know, authenticity? Like someone’s nonna actually lived here and just decided to share it with travelers.
The rooms are honestly what you’d hope for in a place like this – not huge, but thoughtfully done with those thick medieval walls that keep things cool even in August (trust me on this one, Siena gets hot). The breakfast setup happens in this little courtyard area that catches the morning light perfectly, and the owner – I think his name was Marco – actually knows where to get the best coffee in the neighborhood. He sent me to this tiny place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. The whole experience feels more like staying with a knowledgeable local than checking into a hotel, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to really experience Siena rather than just photograph it.
What really sold me though is how it sits in the city. You’re a five-minute walk from the Campo – close enough that you can pop back for a siesta between sightseeing, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the tour group crowds first thing in the morning. The street gets quiet at night too, which isn’t something you can say about everywhere in the centro storico. Plus, and this is the kind of detail that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days, there’s a little alimentari right down the street where you can grab water and snacks without hiking to the main tourist areas. The parking situation is… well, it’s Siena, so it’s complicated, but they actually help you figure it out instead of just handing you a map and wishing you luck. I mean, that alone is worth the slightly higher price point.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Maybe some regular croissants for breakfast. All available croissants were sweet. I prefer a savoury rather that a sweet breakfast.
Our host, Cristiana, was simply amazing! She made us feel like true locals and gave us fantastic recommendations to explore the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Thanks to her, we discovered hidden gems like Volterra, San Gimignano, and Montalcino. She even arranged a visit to a charming vineyard near Marlo, where we enjoyed an unforgettable wine tasting experience!
Cristiana’s hospitality truly made our trip special, and we can’t thank her enough. Highly recommend staying here if you want to experience the heart of Tuscany!
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Breakfast was a little chaotic. The dining room and kitchen were a bit small to easily accommodate more than a few diners at one time. A carafe with ready-made coffee would have been more convenient vs. making on a one-off basis. The hand soap in the room’s bathroom seemed diluted; it had the consistency of water and didn’t suds up well.
Good location in town.
What could be improved: Breakfast was only served from 08:30 which is a little late if you have train or bus to catch

What could be improved: As this was a B&B, there was no person to receive us when we arrived. We rang the door bell several times, but there was no answer. Making matters worse is that our U.S. cell phones do not have 4G/5G or WiFi service so we were not able to call the number listed on Booking.com, nor send an e-mail.
Luckily for us, one of the guests opened the door to the building and was kind enough to call the B&B owner to inform him that we arrived.
