Apartment Margherita
Arezzo, ItalyYou know what surprised me about Apartment Margherita? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street just off the main drag, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from the medieval center of Arezzo. I mean, you can practically hear the church bells from Pieve di Santa Maria in the morning – which is either charming or annoying depending on how you feel about 7 AM wake-up calls (honestly, I loved it).
The apartment itself feels like staying at your well-traveled Italian friend’s place, if that friend happens to have excellent taste in furniture and obsessively clean bathrooms. The kitchen is properly equipped – not just some sad mini-fridge situation – so you can actually hit the Saturday market in Piazza Grande and cook up some of those incredible vegetables the vendors are shouting about. The whole place has this warm, lived-in feeling with terra cotta tiles and these gorgeous wooden shutters that keep things cool during those brutal Tuscan afternoons. What really got me was the attention to detail… there’s good coffee (not instant, thank god), the shower has proper water pressure, and the Wi-Fi actually works in every room. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to video call home or upload photos of the Basilica di San Francesco.
The location is sort of perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Arezzo rather than just passing through. Viale Santa Margherita is this tree-lined street where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and kids playing – it’s real neighborhood life, not tourist central. But here’s the thing: you can walk to Corso Italia for dinner, hit the antique market on the first Sunday of the month, or catch a train to Florence (it’s only an hour) without dealing with any of the chaos. The host, Margherita herself, actually lives nearby and responds to messages instantly – she even left restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. I still think about this tiny osteria she suggested where the pasta was handmade and cost maybe twelve euros. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you consider you’re getting genuine hospitality, not just clean sheets and a key code.

What could be improved: There was no hand soap and the outdoor tables and chairs need updating as they were rusted and we couldn’t use it.
What could be improved: Beds were a bit uncomfortable.
The apartment is a 15 minute stroll into the old town which is beautiful with lots to see and many wonderful places to eat.
The apartment is large, modern with everything you need but the marvellous thing about it ( and why I booked it) is the pasticceria Clemente below !! This is where you have breakfast each morning….and what a treat to sit with the locals and choose from an unbelievable display of cakes and pastries !!! Fabio is a truly wonderful host, very hard working and super friendly. He bakes the many wonders !!
We would certainly stay here again. Arezzo is a great spot to explore other Tuscan towns if you’ve already seen the main attractions. It’s quieter but still plenty to see and a square just as stunning as the top towns.
What could be improved: Nothing at all.
What could be improved: Very little. Being picky, the large kitchen whilst generally well equiped, lacked wine glasses and normal sized pans,
Pastry shop downstairs is great.
Highly recommend!
What could be improved: Nothing.
The best thing is big terrace with magnificent view on Tuscan hills where you can truly enjoy your morning coffee. After that, you can get downstairs to coffee shop next door for typical italian breakfast (included in price).
All compliments to our lovely host Fabio, who greeted us warmly and kept sure that everything was going well.
