Al Palazzaccio Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Al Palazzaccio on Via del Seminario, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Calci. This four-star property sits quietly in this charming Tuscan town, and honestly, the building itself has that authentic Italian character you hope for but rarely find. The entrance feels welcoming without being overly formal — you know what I mean, that perfect balance where you feel comfortable but still know you’re somewhere thoughtfully designed.
Location & Local Charm
Calci isn’t your typical tourist destination, which is actually part of its appeal. You’re about 20 minutes from Pisa (yes, that Pisa with the leaning tower), but here you get to experience real Tuscan life without the crowds. The location consistently earns high marks from guests — I mean, a 9.2 rating speaks for itself. Couples especially seem to love it here, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about wandering these quiet streets in the evening, maybe grabbing dinner at one of the local trattorias nearby.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had that perfect blend of traditional Italian style with modern comfort. You’ll find thoughtful touches throughout — good lighting for reading, proper storage space, and windows that actually open to let in that fresh Tuscan air. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy. What I appreciated most was how quiet everything was at night — you can actually sleep with the windows open and just hear the gentle sounds of the town settling down.
Breakfast & Practical Perks
The buffet breakfast deserves a mention because it’s done right. Fresh pastries, good coffee (this is Italy, after all), and local specialties that change with the seasons. They set it up in a lovely space where you can take your time — no rushing around like at some hotels. And here’s something practical that matters: the free private parking on site. Trust me, if you’re driving through Tuscany, having guaranteed parking at your hotel is worth its weight in gold. No circling narrow streets looking for a spot.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.1 overall rating, Al Palazzaccio clearly gets the fundamentals right. It’s that rare place where the location, service, and atmosphere all come together naturally. You’re close enough to major sights when you want them, but far enough away to feel like you’re experiencing authentic Italy. The staff genuinely cares about your stay without being intrusive, and the whole place has this relaxed energy that makes you want to slow down and actually enjoy your vacation. For couples looking for a romantic base to explore Tuscany, or anyone wanting to experience Italian hospitality at its finest, this place delivers exactly what you’re hoping for.
Hotels in Tuscany crown hilltowns, olive groves, and Renaissance palazzi perfumed with rosemary.

We had a really great Tuscan experience: great food and wine, amazing landscapes, peaceful time in a very cozy and nicely organized location. Everything perfectly clean, the family and the entire staff really friendly and supportive with advices about the region. Besides the picturesque Calci town, we visited Pisa (including the beach in the Marina di Pisa), Lucca, Siena (with its amazing Cathedral) and last, but not least, the Piaggio/Vespa Museum in Pontedera. I believe Al Palazzaccio is a perfect place to relax and really disconnect, but also a great location where from to visit the Tuscany region.

Beautiful setting in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, very relaxing. Swimming pool is gorgeous, clean and an excellent way to spend the day once it gets warm out. Cristiana was welcoming and provided excellent food. We were with our 2 year old and they were very accomodating for everything.
