Agriturismo Scannano
Serre di Rapolano, ItalyYou know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Agriturismo Scannano – just another working farm turned hotel, right? But honestly, this place completely changed how I think about staying in the Tuscan countryside. The gravel crunches under your tires as you wind through actual olive groves to get there, and suddenly you’re parked in front of this beautifully restored stone farmhouse that feels like it’s been sitting in these hills forever. The whole drive from Serre di Rapolano takes maybe ten minutes, but you feel like you’ve escaped into a different century.
What really got me was how genuine everything feels here. The owners – and I mean the actual family who runs this place – they’re not putting on some tourist show. They’re just really proud of what they’ve built, and it shows in every detail. The rooms have these thick stone walls that keep everything cool even in July (trust me on this one), and the beds are actually comfortable, not just pretty to look at. I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms and could hear the countryside waking up in the morning – roosters, sure, but also this incredible quiet that you just can’t find in the cities. The WiFi works fine if you need it, though honestly, you might find yourself caring less about checking emails when you’re sitting on their terrace with a glass of their own wine watching the sun set over those endless rolling hills.
The food situation is where this place really shines, and I mean that in the most authentic way possible. They serve dinner a few nights a week using stuff grown right there on the property – tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, olive oil so fresh it’s almost spicy, that kind of thing. It’s not fancy plated restaurant food, it’s just… real. Good. The kind of meal that makes you understand why people get so obsessed with Italian food culture. Breakfast happens on the terrace when weather permits, and there’s nothing quite like starting your day with fresh pastries and coffee while looking out over vineyards that stretch to the horizon. The whole area is perfect for day trips too – you’re close enough to Siena for a morning visit, but Montepulciano and Pienza are actually easier drives and way less crowded. Pro tip: ask them about the local thermal springs. They’re not in any guidebooks, but they’re absolutely worth the detour.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Nulla
Siamo stati all' inizio di giugno ed era tutto in fiore, bellissimo
E non è mancato l'ottimo cibo
What could be improved: Impossibile trovare negatività
Zona tranquilla
Grazie a Barbara e Irene per averci coccolati con i loro trattamenti e massaggi
What could be improved: The breakfast was very very poor, very limited option, some boiled eggs, packaged yoghurts that were lukewarm and dry stale cake. The air conditioning was not air conditioning, it was ‘underfloor cooling’. Didn’t do anything in the 40 degree weather - Barbara’s husband was rude when requested help with making the room cooler as it is advertised as air conditioned and we couldn’t sleep because it was so hot. A lot of my messages about the air conditioning were ignored by the host.
Room was lovely
Evening food was delicious
What could be improved: You could tell by the plants in the garden that it was loved but the lawn was uncut and the swimming pool was empty ( no water ) which was a real shame
Dinner was Ok. Pasta was very basic. Second 2 nights in a row were very salty.
Breakfast had absolutely nothing fresh, no cut fresh fruits or fresh juice. Just some bananas and apples. They made a couple cakes but even even the brioche was store bought. No cappuccino or expresso included!!! I’m sorry but for this price I expect a fresh breakfast with a cappuccino!
Upon checkout Barbara did not even as us if we enjoyed our stay. There was also a major language barrier so we could not book the spa (20€ extra per HOUR). Not much of a hospitable vibe there unfortunately. I have stayed in 3 agriturismos and come to Italy every year. I will not be returning to this one unfortunately.
What could be improved: Extra charge for almost everything including room service. No fresh breakfast, Dinner was not very good. Very basic with little thought unfortunately. The father is super nice and caring but I think they should take a look at how they are running this farm. Include absolutely everything with the room price, or make it known upfront before booking all the extra charges. Maybe offer dinner at a fixed price rather than inside the room rate as we did not eat there for 2 of the 4 nights.
