Agriturismo Popolano Di Sotto
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Agriturismo Popolano Di Sotto, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star countryside retreat. The property sits along Via Statale in the Sant’Adriano area of Marradi, and you know what struck me immediately? The complete silence — well, except for the occasional rustle of olive trees and maybe a distant church bell. This isn’t your typical hotel experience; it’s more like staying at your Italian grandmother’s farm, if she happened to have impeccable taste and a knack for hospitality.
Location and Setting
Marradi itself is one of those Tuscan gems that most tourists completely miss, tucked away in the Apennine foothills about an hour from Florence. The drive here winds through chestnut forests and rolling hills — I mean, it’s the kind of scenery that makes you pull over just to take photos. What I love about this location is that you’re genuinely in the countryside, but you’re not stranded. The town center is walkable, and there’s actually decent parking right on-site, which anyone who’s driven in Italy will appreciate. Couples seem to get this place — they’ve rated the location 9.1, and I can see why.
The Accommodation Experience
My room had this wonderful mix of rustic charm and modern comfort that agritourism properties often struggle to balance. Think exposed wooden beams, terracotta floors, and windows that frame the surrounding vineyards perfectly. The furnishings felt authentic rather than staged — like someone actually lives here and cares about the details. What surprised me was how quiet everything was; you’d think being along a state road might mean traffic noise, but honestly, I slept better here than I have in months.
Dining and Local Flavors
The restaurant here focuses on local ingredients — and I mean truly local, like vegetables from their own garden and wine from neighboring vineyards. Breakfast featured homemade jams, fresh bread, and this incredible ricotta that I’m still thinking about. Dinner was equally impressive, though I’d recommend making reservations since they don’t run a huge operation. The staff actually knows where everything comes from, which you don’t always get even at fancier places. It’s the kind of meal that reminds you why people fall in love with Italian food culture in the first place.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.5 rating honestly makes sense once you’ve spent time here. This place delivers on the agriturismo promise — authentic countryside living without sacrificing comfort or quality. The owners clearly put thought into every detail, from the landscaping to the wine selection. It’s perfect for couples looking to disconnect (though the WiFi works fine if you need it), and the location gives you easy access to both nature walks and cultural sites. If you’re tired of cookie-cutter hotels and want to experience what rural Italy actually feels like, Agriturismo Popolano Di Sotto gets it right.

On the appartment itself. It is very spacious with everything you need. The pool is clean, with a shallow part (1,20) for the kids and a deeper part (1,70) for dad to practice his diving skills... Monday night was pizza night together with the family and guests which was great. And the surroundings are beautiful. On the other side of the road (2 minutes by car. You could even walk it) is a supermarket which is very convenient. Popolano di Sotto is situated in such a way that the only thing you see is nature. During pizza night we even saw a wild boar mother with her cubs on the hill.
Highly recommended
