Agriturismo “Crocino in Chianti”
Lecchi, ItalySo I stumbled across Agriturismo Crocino in Chianti completely by accident last spring – honestly, I was driving through Gaiole looking for another place entirely when I spotted this gorgeous stone farmhouse tucked into the hills on via Bellaria. You know what struck me first? The silence. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the occasional Vespa putting down the main road, but there’s this incredible sense of being properly in the countryside without feeling isolated. The whole place has that lived-in authenticity that’s getting harder to find in Chianti – it’s clearly been a working farm for generations, and they’ve converted it into accommodations without losing that rustic soul.
The rooms are exactly what you’d hope for in a restored Tuscan farmhouse – thick stone walls that keep things naturally cool (thank god, because August here can be brutal), terracotta floors that have this lovely worn patina, and windows that frame the vineyards perfectly. I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms that looked out over their own olive groves, and honestly, watching the morning mist roll through the vines while having coffee was worth the trip alone. The owner – I think his name was Marco – actually grows his own grapes, and you can taste them at dinner if you ask nicely. Speaking of dinner, don’t expect some fancy restaurant setup, but the family-style meals using their own produce are genuinely memorable. The ribollita was probably the best I had during my entire week in Tuscany.
What I really appreciated was how they handle the whole agriturismo thing – it feels like staying with Italian relatives who happen to have impeccable taste, not like some corporate rural hotel experience. The parking situation is straightforward (just pull up to the main building), check-in was refreshingly relaxed, and they’re genuinely helpful about local recommendations. Gaiole itself is about a five-minute drive – perfect for grabbing supplies or hitting up that excellent enoteca on the main square. You’re also perfectly positioned for day trips to the more famous Chianti towns without dealing with the crowds every single day. The 8.3 rating feels about right, actually – it’s not luxury in the traditional sense, but if you’re looking for authentic Tuscan countryside with modern comfort and genuine hospitality, this place delivers. Just don’t expect lightning-fast WiFi or a spa – but honestly, that’s kind of the point.

What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: We spent three nights here in the beginning of May, with one rainy and one sunny day. The room and bathroom were cold and extremely humid. The shower curtain smelled like mildew and the towels didn’t dry from one day to the next. If a ventilation was put in place it would greatly improve the comfort. The room is also very dark, with no sun entering.
I think the experience would be different in the summer when it is warmer and drier and the pool and garden are prepared for the season.
What could be improved: Kitchen facilities could be improved.
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was great.
