I mean, July in Tuscany without a pool is just masochistic. But here’s the thing that surprised me: the pool area doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It’s positioned so you get these morning views across the valley, and honestly, having my coffee there around 8 AM became this whole ritual. The water’s kept really clean too, which… well, you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case at smaller places. The family running it clearly takes pride in the details – there’s always fresh towels, the pool furniture isn’t that cheap plastic stuff, and they’ve got these umbrellas that actually provide shade.

What really makes this place work though is how it balances that authentic farmhouse feeling with actual comfort. The rooms are in this restored stone building that feels substantial, not like those renovations where they just slapped some beams on the ceiling and called it rustic. My room had these thick walls that kept things cool during the day and – this matters if you’re a light sleeper like me – you really don’t hear much from neighboring rooms or outside. The breakfast setup happens in this covered terrace area, and they do that Italian thing where it’s not a huge buffet but everything they have is really good. Fresh ricotta, local honey, proper espresso that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine that’s been sitting around for months.

Porcari itself is sort of perfectly positioned if you want to explore but not deal with crowds. You’re close enough to Lucca for dinner (seriously, drive there for aperitivo at least once), but you can also head toward the coast – Viareggio’s beaches are maybe 20 minutes if you time it right. The hosts gave me this hand-drawn map showing back roads to avoid traffic, which honestly saved me probably hours over a week-long stay. That 9.7 rating isn’t just people being nice – it’s because places like this remind you why you wanted to come to Italy in the first place. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, it’s just doing the agriturismo thing really, really well.
