25hours Hotel Florence Piazza San Paolino
So I stumbled onto this place completely by accident – well, sort of. I was wandering around Santa Maria Novella (you know, that gorgeous basilica everyone photographs) and literally walked past 25hours Hotel Florence on Piazza San Paolino without even realizing it was there. That’s actually what I love about it – it sits on this charming little square that feels like a local secret, even though you’re maybe three minutes from the main train station.
The thing is, most Florence hotels either stick you in some converted palazzo that’s beautiful but feels like a museum, or they dump you in modern boxes near the Arno. This place does something different. It’s got this playful, almost quirky vibe that somehow works perfectly with the historic neighborhood. I mean, the lobby has these unexpected design touches – sort of contemporary art mixed with Florentine elements – that make you smile instead of feeling intimidated. The staff actually seems to enjoy working there, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dealing with travel fatigue and trying to figure out where to get decent coffee at 7 AM (there’s a great spot on Via del Sole, by the way, just around the corner).
What really won me over was how they’ve thought about the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. The rooms are smart – not huge, because this is Florence and space is precious – but everything has its place. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which you cannot take for granted in Italian city centers. You’ll hear some street noise because, well, you’re in the heart of Florence, but it’s the good kind – people chatting, maybe some late-night laughter from the piazza below. It felt alive, not disruptive.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in a real neighborhood instead of tourist central. Via del Sole connects you straight to the Duomo area, but you can also duck into local wine bars and grab groceries at the little market on Via Sant’Antonino. I loved being able to walk to Santa Maria Novella station in minutes – so convenient for day trips to Siena or if you’re continuing on to Rome – but also being far enough from the crowds that you can actually breathe. Plus, you’re walking distance from the Oltrarno district, which has the best artisan workshops and fewer tour groups.
Look, Florence can be overwhelming, especially if you’re staying somewhere that feels either too touristy or too sterile. This place strikes that sweet spot where you feel like you’ve found something special without paying boutique hotel prices. The whole experience just flows naturally – from check-in to wandering out for aperitivo to collapsing after a day of museum hopping. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay, maybe skip that day trip to Pisa, and just soak up the neighborhood instead.
