Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Florence apartments over the years, and most of them are charming but… well, let’s just say parking usually involves a prayer and a twenty-minute walk. So when I found YID D’Azeglio actually comes with its own parking spot on Via Silvio Pellico, I was honestly a bit skeptical. But you know what? They weren’t kidding around.

The location is one of those “locals know” type deals – you’re right in the San Marco area, which means you’re close enough to walk to the Duomo (maybe 8-10 minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the gelato shops), but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night. Via Silvio Pellico is this quiet residential street where real Florentines live, and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s a little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 AM – the smell of fresh cornetti will probably wake you up before your alarm does. The apartment itself feels properly luxurious without being stuffy about it. You’ve got high ceilings, which is clutch during summer months, and the furnishings are that perfect mix of modern comfort and Italian style. I’m talking actual quality linens, not the scratchy stuff you usually get, and a kitchen that’s equipped for more than just reheating leftover pizza. The bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent water pressure – honestly, half the places I’ve stayed in Italy make you feel like you’re being misted by a garden sprinkler.

What really sold me though was the neighborhood vibe. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza San Marco, where the university students hang out, so there are these great little bars and cafés that don’t feel like tourist traps. The prices are reasonable, the locals are friendly, and you can grab a proper espresso without fighting through crowds of people taking selfies. Plus – and this is key – you can walk to Santa Maria Novella train station in about fifteen minutes, which makes day trips to Siena or Bologna actually doable. The apartment scored an 8.8 rating, and honestly, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Florence, but it nails all the things that actually matter when you’re traveling. The parking thing alone is worth its weight in gold if you’re planning to explore Tuscany by car. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – this is more like staying at your stylish Italian friend’s place, assuming your friend has excellent taste and keeps a very clean house.

Reviews

  • Excellent choise for a large group.Good and beautiful design. – Denisa from Romania – 27 October 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is very cozy and the rooms are big and well equipped.Very good choose for a large group as we were. Also it was very clean and welcoming.

What could be improved: I would've like to have more towles, at least one more for each person. The same for the toilet paper. Also we needed tissue paper in the kitchen….I know this last we should've buy, but we didn't think while we were walking the city, than we found out we need some and we didn't find in the aprtment.Maybe a small box to be left for the guests it would be necessary.

  • Excellent. Would stay again. – Todd from United States – 19 July 2024 (9/10)

Generous space, large rooms. It is a great location for brief walks to all the central sights in Florence. We were pleased with this apartment. The kitchen was perfect, bathrooms were awesome… Great shower!

What could be improved: There were 7 in our party. One set of keys for the 7 of us was inconvenient. For parties our size I'd recommend 2 sets of keys, 3 if they'd fit in the lock box.
The WiFi signal was strong but operated very sluggishly. Don't really know why… might have been our phone carrier.

  • The best place to stay in Florence! – Tim from United States – 4 July 2024 (10/10)

Great location for visiting Florence – away from the main tourist areas but close enough to walk to all of the main attractions and sights. Lots of amazing restaurants within a 5 min walk.

  • We had a great stay because the apt was well furnished and excellent amenities. – Edward from United States – 16 June 2024 (10/10)

The apt was very clean and the bathrooms had plenty of hot water with good water pressure. Loved having an elevator.

What could be improved: The instructions on how to find the lock box were confusing. We were told to look for the keys in a wooden box on the door. in reality, the lock box was in a large wooden storage cabinet that held the utility meters. The box was tucked away in a corner and hard to see. Luckily, we did a video call with staff and the problem was quickly resolved. I would also recommend having three sets of keys when there is a party of five or more people. We all had different things we wanted to do and see and this would have made getting into the apt much more convenient. You could also mention to future guests like several coffee shops and the excellent Ara restaurant is three blocks away on via Silva Pellico.

  • Extremely comfortable and very spacious. Close enough to walk to major attractions it it was a bit further then other p – John from United States – 11 June 2024 (8/10)

Very spacious and in a beautiful neighborhood. Very quiet and comfortable beds and A/C was very nice and welcome.

What could be improved: WiFi did not function while we were there. The issue was never resolved but we were only there for a few days so was not a huge issue.

  • Superb – Cf from Malaysia – 2 May 2024 (9/10)

The space. We were a party of 6 people but I believe the apartment can sleep 8. I can still recall the first impression I had when I opened the door to the unit. Wow! An air of luxury, just as the name suggests.
The coat hanger and umbrellas strategically placed as soon as one enters, was helpful.
Common space ie. the living room cum dining, was welcoming as we were able to comfortable sit around the lounge and enjoy each other's company, nearly somewhat not wanting to leave the unit.
Each room looks out to lush greenery.
Property management was easily reachable via a dedicated group whatsapp set up although there was a delay on the first night, possibly because it was a public holiday the following day. They were also very accommodating when I had trouble getting taxi transport to the train station, helping to call the taxi company to send taxis for us at checkout.
Independent split air conditioning units are available in each room, promising comfort, a HUGE Plus!
If you arrive before check in time, there is a nearby location (Tabaccheria Donatella) less than 3 minutes walk that allows you to store your luggage for price. However, be mindful of the opening and closing hours. Check Bounce for luggage storage.

What could be improved: The apartment, especially bedrooms, foyer and kitchen have no ceiling lights. Dependent on table or floor standing lamps, the light bulbs should be replaced with brighter ones.
The furnishings like the sofa is tired and probably need a spruce up.
The cutlery and crockery could have been cleaner.
Over the stove espresso maker is provided but no coffee powder, Balance unused tea sachets were somewhat obviously left by previous guests.
    The freezer was frosted up.
Oddly, the washing machine is stored in the open balcony at the back with no tap installed to the washing trough. Thankfully, the machine functions and washing detergent was provided.
Shampoo and body shampoo lacking, with very minimal provided despite us booking 2 nights for 6 pax.
The apartment has a few steps to manage before reaching the lifts. Those who have mobililty issues should take this into consideration.
If you are driving, best to make prior arrangements with regard to parking and access into the ZTL areas, without which you might end up being fined by authorities.

  • Very good – West from United States – 3 July 2023 (8/10)

    Spacious, high ceilings, quiet neighborhood

What could be improved: Hot water was not reliable, apartment smelled a bit musty from age

  • Spacious, clean with a good location – Sanne from Denmark – 31 July 2024 (10/10)

Helpful staff, amazingly clean, spacious, good location.

What could be improved: One bedroom with a broken AC. Notice the single bedroom is a walkthrough room to one of the bathrooms.

  • Not worth the money – Roy from Israel – 11 July 2024 (5/10)

The location of the property, only 20 minutes walk from main attractions.
The apartment is very specious and quite.
    Very good customer service.

What could be improved: The facility could be better.
One shower, was not unusable, the sink and tub were blocked. One bed (sofa bed) was totally not comfortable, and one was half broken.
The door to the main bathroom can't be closed properly.
For this price, I would expect a much better facility.
Parking is not free. There is a cost of at least 45€ per day.
Check in time is only at 16:00
And you must leave the place at 10:00
We are quit disappointed, and wouldn't recommend this place for his high price.
We travel alot, and had many different apartments across Italy, for this price, we can find much better
    Shame

  • Good – Len from Australia – 24 June 2024 (7/10)

Unfortunate experience as the first property was in a great location but the hot water was not working. They put us into another facility on the other side of the river, we had to catch an Uber to the city instead of walking in. On they upside they did refund some money to us for the inconvenience.

    What could be improved: Location.
