You know what? I almost walked right past Villino Fiorentino the first time I looked for it on Via Cinque Giornate. It’s tucked into this residential street in Santa Maria Novella in the most unassuming way – no flashy signs or tourist crowds milling about outside. But honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The building itself has this lovely weathered Florence charm, the kind where you can tell it’s been welcoming travelers for decades without trying too hard to impress anyone.

The location is actually brilliant once you get your bearings. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella station, which sounds touristy but it’s not – the neighborhood around here is where real Florentines actually live and work. There’s this fantastic little bar on the corner where locals grab their morning espresso (and I mean the real deal, not the milky tourist stuff), and the narrow streets leading toward the Duomo are lined with those hole-in-the-wall shops that have been run by the same families forever. The rooms themselves surprised me – they’ve got this perfect balance of keeping the old-world character (beautiful high ceilings, original tile work) while actually being comfortable to stay in. The air conditioning works properly, thank god, because Florence in summer is no joke.

What really won me over was how the staff just… gets it. They’re not hovering or overly formal, but they know the city inside and out. When I asked about avoiding the crowds at the Uffizi, the woman at the front desk gave me this incredibly detailed strategy involving specific times and alternative routes that you’d never find in a guidebook. The breakfast setup is simple but thoughtful – proper Italian coffee, fresh pastries from somewhere local (not those sad hotel croissants), and they set everything up in this small courtyard garden that catches the morning light just right. Sure, it’s not a sprawling buffet, but it feels authentic in a way that actually matters. The whole place has this relaxed confidence that comes from knowing it doesn’t need to oversell itself – it’s just a really solid place to stay in one of the best neighborhoods in Florence, run by people who care about getting the details right.

  Little gem which is only a short walk away from the centre of Florence, we did our entire journey on foot and visited everything the city had to offer!
