Villa Augusto Overview
First Impressions
When you first pull up to Villa Augusto, you’ll immediately understand why couples give this place such high marks. This four-star property sits in the Salcotto area just outside Cortona, and honestly — the setting is pretty spectacular. You’re close enough to walk into the historic center (about 15 minutes on foot), but far enough out to feel like you’ve escaped the tourist crowds. The villa itself has that authentic Tuscan charm without trying too hard, if you know what I mean.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I really appreciated about the location — you get parking right on site, which is actually a huge deal in this part of Tuscany. Most places in Cortona’s center make you park outside the walls and walk, but Villa Augusto solves that problem completely. The Salcotto neighborhood feels residential and peaceful, with those classic cypress-lined roads you see in all the postcards. You’re also perfectly positioned for day trips — Montepulciano is about 30 minutes away, and you can reach Arezzo in under an hour.
The Accommodation
My room had that perfect balance of traditional Tuscan style and modern comfort. The stone walls and terracotta floors give you the authentic feel, but everything works properly — good WiFi, reliable hot water, air conditioning that actually cools the space. The windows frame views of the surrounding hills, and in the morning, you’ll wake up to that soft golden light that makes Tuscany famous. I mean, the 9.5 rating really shows in these details — it’s clear they’ve thought about what travelers actually need.
Amenities & Relaxation
The swimming pool is honestly one of the best features here. It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned with panoramic views over the valley. After spending hot afternoons exploring hilltop towns, coming back for a swim felt like a wonderful escape. The pool area has comfortable loungers and stays sunny most of the day, plus it’s never crowded since the property isn’t massive. There’s also a nice terrace area where you can have breakfast or just sit with a glass of wine in the evening — which, let’s be honest, is probably what you came to Tuscany for anyway.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Villa Augusto apart is how it manages to feel both secluded and accessible. You get that peaceful Tuscan countryside experience, but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. The staff clearly knows the area well and can point you toward the best local spots — not just the obvious tourist attractions. Couples especially seem to love it here (they rate the location 9.7), and I can see why. It’s romantic without being overly fussy, and the combination of great views, easy restaurant access in Cortona, and that wonderful pool creates exactly the kind of relaxed atmosphere you want for a getaway. Plus, having your own car sorted with the free parking means you can explore the region at your own pace.

I'd been looking forward to staying at Villa Augusto for a long time and it did not disappoint! Augusto was a wonderful host who informed us of the history of the property and showed us through the property at check-in. An authentic Tuscan stay, I hope one day we get to return.

Iza from Georgia (10/10)
Breathtaking villa and atmosphere — perfect for a few-day getaway, getting lost, and exploring an all-Italian experience. We felt like we were in a movie, walking around the villas built a few centuries ago.
Augusto was an incredible host, helping us with everything. We had a problem reaching the villa from the train station. Augusto provided us with a ride from the station, helped us to hire a car in Cortona, and explained everything about the town, including sending detailed information about what to eat, see and explore in Cortona, and Toscana in general. Definitely going back!Mark from Australia (10/10)
Great facilities and Augusto was a fantastic host

Good location near Cortona. Hot water in the shower and supermarket nearby. Grounds and outside space very nice, although we didn't use them as weather wet when we were there.

The best thing about villa Augusto truly is Augusto. He is a true local with extensive knowledge about the majority of cities, museums, restaurants, coffee shops, wineries and everything Tuscanny, and shares his knowledge in a perfect way to enhance your trip in the region of Val d'Orcia and beyond. The villa itself is stunning inside, with its authentic furniture and design. The fact that its family owned by Augusto's family for many generations makes it a very personal experience.

Lovely large apartment in an historic villa with beautiful gardens and stunning pool. It’s walking distance to a mini mart and about 40 minutes walk uphill to Cortona. Also an easy drive to Arezzo, Montepulciano and lake Trasimeno. Augusto was a very attentive and knowledgeable host.
