Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Tuscany over the years, and Terre di Baccio is one of those hidden gems that actually lives up to its 9.4 rating. It’s tucked away in the Case Sparse area of Greve in Chianti – honestly, you’d never find it without GPS, but that’s sort of the point. When you’re winding through those narrow roads between olive groves and vineyards, you start to wonder if you’ve taken a wrong turn, and then suddenly there it is.

The property itself feels like someone’s elegant country home that they decided to share with the world. I mean, it’s clearly a proper hotel with all the four-star touches you’d expect, but there’s this warmth that’s hard to fake. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which is refreshing. What really got me was the attention to details that matter – like how they time the breakfast service so the pastries are still warm when you come down, or the way they’ve positioned the outdoor seating to catch both the morning sun and evening light. The rooms have that perfect balance of rustic Tuscan charm (think exposed beams and local ceramics) without feeling like you’re camping in someone’s barn.

Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute drive into Greve proper, where the Saturday market is absolutely worth planning around. The hotel sits high enough that you get these sweeping views of the Chianti countryside – honestly, the kind of vistas that make you understand why people move to Italy and never leave. Parking is no issue at all, which anyone who’s driven through Italian hill towns will appreciate. The evenings are incredibly quiet except for the occasional distant church bell, so if you’re looking to actually disconnect, this works. They do have a small pool that’s perfect for cooling off after a day of wine tasting, though it’s not huge – more intimate than Instagram-worthy, if that makes sense. I’d definitely go back, especially in late September when the grape harvest is happening all around you and the whole valley has this golden, buzzing energy.

  • This was a magical place that made me feel welcomed, at home and spoiled like a celebrity- exceptional is spot on – Lyneth from United Kingdom – 4 July 2025 (10/10)

This place is stunning and tranquil. The location is perfect, walking down into Greve. But wider in the region of Chianti to Siena and Florence. It was super clean, and felt very special and magical with all the animals. We were able to wine taste in the cellar which was fantastic, the pool was so scenic and the pool loungers comfortable. Everyone was helpful; Sabrina from the off was welcoming and knowledgeable- small touches like changing music at dinner for us, innes with her comedic style and knowledge of introducing us to wine in the complementary wine tasting, Brolio was always there and ready to help… on the bar waiting and for our fantastic holiday moment driving in the Fiat. Ghenti was a superb chef and we had fabulous foods.

What could be improved: Nothing. I read every review before booking and some made me wonder but I am so pleased I chose this place. I read comments about the hills- we walked to greve everyday with no issues. I ready comments about the animals and music – they were so lovely to see but didn’t invade and the music added to the ambience and certainly not an issue.

  • You must visit Terre di Baccio! – Sarah from United States – 28 April 2025 (10/10)

I can’t say enough amazing things about this place! Best experience, staff and getaway.

When you arrive, you immediately feel at peace at this beautiful resort. A perfect getaway that heals the soul.

The staff was the best we’ve ever experienced – Marco, Ines, Daniela, Sabrina, just to name a few. They all went above and beyond to make our experience memorable, helping us with anything we needed and providing us with lots of laughs. They were very gracious, helpful, and giving.

The wine tasting with Ines was a highlight. We spent hours chatting with her, enjoying delicious wine, cheese, bread and olive oil. She was absolutely amazing and we had a lot of fun. And bought wine to take home!

The room was spacious and homey, with our own living room and kitchen to enjoy to ourselves.

The restaurant provided delicious meals and nightly entertainment from Marco on the piano, creating a perfect and romantic ambience.

An experience we will never forget and we will certainly be back!

  • Extraordinary – Shrivastava from Italy – 13 January 2025 (10/10)

Breakfast and dinner was awesome. Staff was extraordinary. Marco went the extra mile to entertain us. He is amazing. Illaria and Sabrina were also great staff. They all treated us like family and we had an excellent experience.

What could be improved: It was all good

  • Amazing trip! – Holly from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (10/10)

Very lovely stay at Terre di Baccio! Me and my partner were impressed the whole time through our stay! Starting with communication before we even arrived. We needed to rearrange the dates of our trip and they were very helpful and accommodating. When we arrived, we were greeted very nicely by the staff. The building is situated on quite a steep hill. They offer to come and collect you from the bottom. As we were waiting, everyone who was driving in offered us a lift up the hill. Everybody was so friendly it was a lovely place to stay!

The room was lovely! We received a complimentary upgrade to a suite which had an amazing view!

Dinner was lovely. The server was very helpful and kind. Dinner feels very intimate as when we were eating there were only 3 other couples. The chef kept coming out at points to play the piano which was lovely.

Breakfast is complimentary with your stay. This is also very nice. Most of the food is made from ingredients grown at Terre de Baccio! It was very lovely and a good variety.

There is so much to do here! We had a lovely walk around the property grounds. They have a variety of animals that you are able to watch them being fed.

There is a pool, hot tub and small gym. The pool area is very lovely, with a bar where you can get drinks or snacks.

There is a short route through the vineyards into the small town which is also worth a visit!

Finally we experienced the wine tasting which is complimentary as part of your stay. This was a highlight of our trip! Ines is very friendly and welcoming and very knowledgeable about the wines! She made us feel comfortable, there was no pressure to buy the wines. She also informed us that Terre de Baccio has a restaurant in the small town, and that you get discount there while you are staying. We didn’t try this restaurant out however it looked very nice!

This was an amazing stay and I hope to visit Terre de Baccio again in the future!

  • A top notch place to stay, but be prepared to pay handsomely for a room with a view. – Alex from United Kingdom – 19 October 2024 (8/10)

Beautiful location; very comfortable and well-appointed room; excellent breakfast in the Orangerie; lovely staff.

What could be improved: There was no view at all from our room, which was in effect a cellar (the old stables). OK for a night, but could be a bit depressing for a longer stay. This was the only thing that affected our consideration of ‘value for money’.

  • A gem in the Tuscan hills – I’m coming back for she – Dorian from Israel – 28 September 2024 (10/10)

LOOOOVED this hotel, what an absolute gem! Everything is perfect, massive grounds, the friendliest staff, helpful. Execellnr design, authentic but so luxurious. Loved this place. Also dinner was the best we had in Italy in the hotel restaurant and the chef is so friendly

What could be improved: No closings loved everything

  • Overall good stay – Molly from United States – 20 September 2024 (8/10)

Beautiful property close to Greve. Nice walking path right into the town. Wonderful breakfast room and staff is very accommodating (check in times, dinner reservations, etc.). Pool area is very nice, with a small gym located nearby. Room was very clean (but standard Queen room was quite dark and small).

What could be improved: Bit of a variable experience in the restaurant. First night was excellent (best dining experience complete with a piano performance), but second time back the server was very inexperienced, we were served refrigerated red wine, and the meat was very dry (worst dish in Italy stay overall). Could be more upfront with the extra charges – we were charged 10 Euro a person to use sauna and this was not communicated in advance. In traveling around to different spots before staying here, most include use of sauna facilities with stay – would have expected that from this place as well.

  • Exceptional – Frederik from Netherlands – 12 September 2024 (10/10)

Excellent property, great facilities and staff! We had a great time.

  • Can’t wait to return – Gabrielle from United States – 3 September 2024 (10/10)

Truly a luxurious experience! We will be back

What could be improved: Breakfast was extraordinary but it is the same everyday

  • Spectacular. – Hannah from Australia – 7 August 2024 (10/10)

The most amazing stay – at highlight of all of my travels.
The property and surrounds itself, absolutely stunning. Photos don’t do it justice.
The staff – amazing. We did a wine tasting with Ines and highly recommend.
Food – all organic and locally sourced.
The chef Marco came out during dinner and played the piano and it was truly amazing!
Loved every minute, and will definitely plan to visit again next time we are on this side of the world!
