TAILOR HOUSE B&B
Florence, ItalyYou know what’s funny about Florence? Everyone expects to stay in some massive Renaissance palazzo, but honestly, the best experiences happen in places like Tailor House B&B – tucked away on Via della Spada, literally a two-minute walk from the Duomo but somehow worlds away from the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re right in Santa Maria Novella, which sounds fancy but is actually just the neighborhood name (locals call it SMN), and it’s perfect because you can stumble back from dinner without navigating those maze-like streets that all look the same after dark.
The B&B itself feels like someone’s stylish aunt decided to open her home to travelers – there’s this warm, lived-in elegance that you don’t get in chain hotels. The rooms have that perfect balance of historic charm and modern comfort, though I’ll be honest, if you’re over six feet tall, watch your head on some of the doorways (classic Florentine building quirks). What really won me over was the breakfast situation – and I’m usually a grab-coffee-and-go person. They actually know how to make proper cappuccino, not that milky tourist stuff, and the spread includes local pastries from a bakery down the street that I kept going back to throughout my stay. The owner clearly cares about the details – fresh flowers, quality linens, and they’ll give you actual recommendations, not just point you toward the obvious sites.
Here’s the thing about the location that guidebooks won’t tell you: Via della Spiga connects to all these little side streets where actual Florentines do their shopping and drinking. You’re a five-minute walk from Sant’Ambrogio market (go early, trust me), and there’s this tiny enoteca around the corner that doesn’t even have a proper sign but serves the best Chianti I had in the city. The train station is close enough that you won’t hate yourself with luggage, but far enough that you won’t hear announcements at 6 AM. Parking is tricky – well, it’s Florence, so parking is always tricky – but they’ll help you figure out the closest garage, and honestly, you won’t need a car anyway. The whole historic center is walkable, and after a day of museum-hopping, you’ll appreciate having a quiet base that feels more like a home than a hotel. That 9.2 rating makes sense when you realize it’s not trying to be everything to everyone – it’s just really, really good at being a comfortable, authentic place to stay in one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

What could be improved: A bit noisy from the streets outside.
What could be improved: extra twin bed was a bit stiff but overall a lovely stay
Bed and pillows very comfortable but as I said at the end it comes all to the owner who is very careful and friendly.
What could be improved: When you book it in Booking.com it says it offers the parking space, even when you only filter hotels or B&Bs with parking, but in real life the parking is 6 min away ny walk and you have to pay extra for that. When I first got to know that I was not super happy, but when I saw the location of the B&B it kinda made sense.
Highly recommended!
What could be improved: Nothing related to hotel
What could be improved: Since the window was facing the main street, it got quite loud when opening it.
What could be improved: Towels were stiff & rough
Our host Alessandro was very welcoming and helpful! Definitely an address to save for our next Florence trip.
What could be improved: Busy street so it can get quite noisy if you leave window open at night, but if it gets too hot there is AC.
What could be improved: Bed is kind of soft for us.
