Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Tuscany, but this spot in Capannori actually surprised me. When I first pulled up — and parking was no issue, by the way, which is honestly a relief in this part of Italy — I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. But then you walk in and there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about every detail here.
The jacuzzi is obviously the star (I mean, it’s right there in the name), and honestly, it’s not one of those tiny hotel tubs that barely fits two people. This thing is legit. After spending days wandering around Lucca’s walls or driving through the Garfagnana, sinking into that warm water with a glass of local wine was pretty much perfect. The whole place has this lived-in luxury feel — like staying at a really well-off friend’s house rather than some sterile hotel. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent pots, which you’d be surprised how rare that is in vacation rentals. I ended up cooking with stuff from the Saturday market in Capannori centro (it’s about a ten-minute walk, and the porchetta guy there knows his stuff).
What really got me was the attention to things you don’t realize you need until you don’t have them. The water pressure is fantastic, there are enough outlets in sensible places, and the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the house — even out on the terrace where I spent most mornings with coffee. The beds are properly comfortable too, not just pretty to look at. And the location is sort of perfect if you want to feel like you’re in “real” Italy without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. You’re close enough to Lucca that you can pop over for dinner (the drive takes maybe 15 minutes), but far enough out that you wake up to actual quiet and church bells instead of Vespas and tour groups.
I stayed there in late September, which turned out to be ideal — warm enough for the jacuzzi to feel amazing in the evenings, but not so hot that you’re melting during the day. The whole Capannori area is honestly underrated; most people rush straight to the famous hill towns and miss these little gems. There’s this family-run osteria about five minutes away (follow the signs toward Segromigno) that serves the kind of ribollita that makes you understand why Tuscans are so proud of their food. The host actually gave me directions there during check-in, along with a bunch of other local tips that you definitely won’t find in guidebooks.
Look, I’m pretty picky about where I stay, and this place just works. It’s got that rare combination of being beautiful enough for special occasions but comfortable enough that you actually relax instead of worrying about breaking something expensive. If you’re looking for a base to explore this part of Tuscany — or honestly, if you just want to hole up with good wine and that jacuzzi — you could do a lot worse than this spot.
