SPIRIT OF FLORENCE Boutique Rooms
You know what struck me first about SPIRIT OF FLORENCE? It’s actually right on Piazza Santo Spirito, which honestly feels like you’ve stumbled into the real Florence that most tourists never see. I mean, this square is where locals hang out in the evenings – there’s this amazing church (Brunelleschi designed it, but it’s way less crowded than the Duomo) and the whole vibe is just… authentic. The hotel sits right in the middle of all this, but somehow manages to feel like a quiet refuge.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a boutique place that’s clearly put thought into every detail. Everything feels intentional – the lighting actually works for reading, the bathroom has proper water pressure (trust me, this matters in Florence), and the beds are genuinely comfortable. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with that old Florentine character. The building itself has history in its bones, but you’re not sacrificing your back to sleep on some antique mattress, you know? And the soundproofing is surprisingly good – even though you’re right on the piazza, I barely heard the evening crowds gathering around the fountain.
Location-wise, this is where things get interesting. You’re in Santo Spirito, which is across the Arno but only a five-minute walk to Ponte Vecchio. The thing is, this neighborhood has personality. There’s a morning market right in the piazza (Mondays), and Via Maggio – one of Florence’s most beautiful streets – is literally around the corner. Plus, you’re close enough to walk everywhere important but far enough from the tourist chaos around Santa Maria Novella. The staff actually knows the area too, which sounds basic but honestly isn’t always the case. They pointed me toward this tiny restaurant on Via Sant’Agostino that I never would have found otherwise.
The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re traveling with huge suitcases, the historic building means no elevator – but the rooms are spread across just a few floors, so it’s not like you’re climbing a mountain. Also, parking isn’t right at the hotel (this is Florence, after all), but there’s a garage about ten minutes away that they can arrange for you.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that comes from being genuinely small-scale. Check-in felt more like being welcomed into someone’s home than processing through a hotel lobby. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you experience it – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, just really good at what it does. And honestly, after spending a few days here, you start to understand why people fall in love with Florence. It’s not just about the museums and monuments – it’s about sitting in that piazza at sunset, watching the neighborhood come alive, and feeling like you’re part of something bigger than just another vacation.
