You know what struck me first about Soggiorno Lo Stellino? It’s actually tucked away on Via Fiorentina in this quietly residential part of Siena that most tourists never see – which honestly is half the charm. I mean, you’re still just a pleasant 15-minute walk from the Piazza del Campo, but you wake up to actual Italian neighborhood life instead of crowds taking selfies under your window. The building itself has that understated Tuscan elegance thing going on, nothing flashy, just solid stone and those green shutters that look like they’ve been there forever (probably have, knowing Siena). Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – the staff actually remembered my name by day two, which doesn’t happen much at hotels anymore.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable. The rooms have these gorgeous original terracotta floors and beamed ceilings that make you feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed Italian home, but they’ve smartly added modern touches where it matters – the bathroom’s completely renovated, Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and thank god, proper air conditioning. I stayed in July and slept like a baby. The breakfast spread surprised me too – yeah, there’s the usual continental stuff, but they also had local pecorino cheese, prosciutto from somewhere nearby that was absolutely incredible, and this woman who makes fresh cornetti that are honestly better than what I had at some fancy places in Florence. Pro tip: if you’re driving, there’s street parking right along Via Fiorentina that’s free after 8 PM, though it fills up fast during peak season.

Here’s the thing about the location that took me a day to fully appreciate – you’re positioned perfectly to experience Siena like locals do. There’s this little alimentari just down the street where I grabbed wine and snacks for evening picnics, and the morning coffee routine at the bar around the corner became my daily ritual. The walk into the historic center takes you through these narrow medieval streets that tour groups never bother with, past workshops where you can still watch artisans doing their thing. It’s quieter at night too, which matters if you’re a light sleeper – no late-night revelry echoing off ancient walls. The 8.8 rating makes total sense because honestly, this is how you’d want to stay in Siena if you actually lived there. Not the fanciest place in town, but it gets all the important stuff right and gives you that authentic Tuscan experience without feeling like you’re roughing it.

  Awesome breakfast and coffee! The staff are so nice and helpful. It did feel more like a hotel than a B&B. Very clean and nice bathroom. Very good location for bus into main part of Siena. You can walk into town but we took the bus.
