You know what caught me off guard about ShaLeo Holiday Home? The moment I walked up to 32 Via Callaro, I realized this wasn’t going to be your typical Tuscan tourist trap. I mean, Marliana isn’t exactly on everyone’s Italy bucket list – it’s this quiet hillside town that honestly feels like it’s still figuring out what to do with visitors. But that’s exactly what makes staying here so refreshing.

The place has this lived-in charm that actually feels genuine, not like someone decorated it from a “rustic Italian” Pinterest board. The rooms are solid – clean, comfortable beds, and the kind of thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly cool even when it’s blazing outside. What really sold me though was stepping out onto the terrace in the morning with my coffee and realizing I could see clear across the valley without a single tour bus in sight. The owners clearly know their stuff too – they’ll point you toward the trail that leads up to the old castle ruins (about a 20-minute walk if you’re reasonably fit) and actually give you useful directions, not just wave vaguely toward the hills.

Honestly, the 8.8 rating makes sense once you spend a day or two here. It’s not perfect – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and if you’re looking for room service or a concierge, well, you’re in the wrong place. But there’s something really satisfying about staying somewhere that feels connected to the actual rhythm of Italian life. The local alimentari is maybe a five-minute walk down Via Callaro, and the woman who runs it will slice your prosciutto paper-thin while telling you (in animated Italian-English) about her nephew’s wedding last weekend. Evenings are quiet here – I mean really quiet, the kind where you can hear church bells from the next village over – so if you need constant entertainment, this probably isn’t your speed. But if you want to wake up to the sound of actual roosters instead of traffic, and you don’t mind driving ten minutes to reach the bigger towns like Pescia for dinner options, then ShaLeo hits that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable. Plus, parking is never an issue here, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Italian hill towns with a rental car will appreciate more than they should.

  Fantastic place to stay and relax. We loved the pool and the scenery / view is just spectacular. We also enjoyed using the table tennis and foosball. The house is gorgeous with lots of space and amenities.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was great but I wish I realised there was a hot tub but I didn't see it until the morning we were leaving.

  The place is magnificent high in the mountains. Beautiful view and tremendous facilities ie swimming pool, lounge space, table tennis, hot tub, kitchen and spacious bedroom.

  As a family we really enjoyed the outdoor table tennis and large pool, and the indoor table football.
  The property was arranged over a number of levels and was spotlessly clean with air-conditioning.
  We spent lots of time in the outdoor area which included a BBQ and 3 seating areas all with fantastic views over the valley.
  The hosts were very friendly and replied quickly to any questions we had.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing. We enjoyed every aspect of our holiday at ShaLeo.

  We stayed a week with our 6 years old daughter. The view from the beautiful historical house is fantastic! Although the way to the house last 15 minutes in a narrow road, the forest view was amazing. Occasionally, we encountered some wild animals on the side of the road.
  The house was very clean and fully equipped. The rooms are large and comfortable. The house is dividend by 3 levels with narrow steps between each level. We stayed at the end of September so it was too cold to enjoy the pool. Sharon and Leo were very kind and sweet, they responded quickly to our messages. We definitely will come again.
  
  What could be improved: The road to the house is narrow and it last 15 minutes. The house is dividend into 3 levels with narrow staircase.
