The fact that it’s tucked away on Via dell’Orto – literally “Garden Street” – and you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking for the subtle entrance. I mean, this isn’t some flashy resort screaming for attention; it’s more like discovering a well-kept secret in one of Tuscany’s most underrated hill towns.

The thing about staying here is that you’re basically living inside Castiglion Fiorentino’s medieval walls, which sounds touristy but honestly just means you can stumble back from dinner without navigating narrow streets in the dark (trust me, this matters). The hotel itself has that perfect balance – it’s clearly been renovated with care, but they didn’t strip away the character that makes these old buildings special. The rooms have those thick stone walls that keep things cool even in July, and the windows actually open properly, which I always appreciate. You’ll hear church bells in the morning, but it’s more charming than annoying, and the town goes pretty quiet after dinner anyway.

What really sets this place apart is how the staff seems to genuinely know the area. When I asked about hiking trails, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – they actually sketched out a route that hits the best viewpoints and mentioned which café in town makes the strongest espresso for the walk back. The breakfast setup is nothing fancy, but they source from local producers, and you can taste the difference in everything from the honey to the pecorino. Plus, parking is included in a proper lot (not some tiny space you have to squeeze into), which anyone who’s driven in Italian hill towns will appreciate. The 9.4 rating honestly makes sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it does everything it promises really well. If you’re the type who wants to actually experience a Tuscan town rather than just pass through it, this feels like the right base camp.

  Very special stay in a residence within old city walls, with a small garden for breakfast overlooking the Tuscan valley.
  Parking is 250 m away from the hotel, but staff helped us with luggage.

  Almost everything! It was a perfect location with very helpful and friendly staff who felt more like family.
  If you are driving, please make sure you get them to help you navigate to the closest public parking area, because the medieval town centre is a maze of narrow streets you will not be able to negotiate yourself!

  After coming from the hectic nature of the larger Italian cities and towns, arriving in Castiglion Fiorentino was bliss. Sonia picked me up from the train station and took me back to the accommodation which was incredible. A bed and breakfast at its core but delivered with love. And the location? Breathtaking!
