Ruby Bea Hotel Florence
You know what struck me first about Ruby Bea? It’s actually got personality – which honestly isn’t something you can say about every hotel in Florence. The building sits right on Piazza della Libertà, and I mean right on it, so you’re watching the local morning routine unfold from your window while sipping espresso. The Campo Di Marte neighborhood isn’t where most tourists end up, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re living alongside actual Florentines here, not just other travelers hunting for the perfect Duomo selfie.
The whole vibe feels deliberately un-touristy, if that makes sense. The lobby has this sort of curated vintage feel – not the fake antique stuff you see everywhere, but pieces that actually tell a story. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no upselling, no twenty-minute spiel about spa services), and the staff seemed genuinely interested in helping rather than just going through the motions. My room had these beautiful terrazzo floors that stayed cool even during those brutal August afternoons, and the bathroom – well, let’s just say they didn’t skimp on the marble. The bed was properly firm, which I appreciated after weeks of too-soft hotel mattresses that leave you feeling like you wrestled with a marshmallow all night.
What really sold me on the place was how it connects to the rest of the city. The tram stop is literally a two-minute walk, and that tram will drop you at Santa Maria Novella station in maybe fifteen minutes – no dealing with taxi drivers who suddenly don’t know where anything is when they spot your luggage. But honestly, some of my favorite moments happened just wandering the neighborhood. There’s this incredible little osteria on Via Guido Monaco (maybe a five-minute walk?) where locals actually eat, and the morning market on Piazza Ghiberti has vendors who remember your face after day two. The hotel sits in this sweet spot where you can walk to Piazzale Michelangelo when you want that postcard view, but you’re not fighting crowds every time you step outside your door. Parking, by the way, is handled through a nearby garage – not cheap, but then again, nothing in Florence is. The area gets genuinely quiet at night, which was a relief after staying in places where street noise made sleep impossible. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly because it feels like you’re experiencing Florence rather than just checking boxes off a tourist itinerary.
