Retrò B&B
Pisa, ItalyFirst Impressions
Walking up to Retrò B&B on Via Santa Caterina, you immediately get the sense that this isn’t your typical tourist accommodation. The building has that authentic Italian charm — you know, the kind where locals actually live and work nearby, not just another street lined with souvenir shops. I mean, the name says it all really, and they’ve managed to capture that retro Italian vibe without making it feel like a theme park. It’s intimate, with just a handful of rooms, which honestly makes all the difference when you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just another bed for the night.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in the heart of Pisa, but not in that overwhelming touristy way. Via Santa Caterina puts you close enough to everything that matters (the Leaning Tower is definitely walkable), but you’re actually staying where Pisans go about their daily lives. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these narrow streets in the evening when the day-trippers have headed back to their buses. You’ll find proper cafes nearby where locals grab their morning espresso, and that authentic neighborhood feel is honestly worth its weight in gold when you’re traveling.
The Rooms
The rooms at Retrò B&B live up to the name with thoughtful vintage touches that feel curated rather than random. I’m talking about furniture and decor that actually tells a story, not just stuff that looks old for the sake of it. The spaces are cozy — and I mean that in the best way, not as a euphemism for tiny. You get the sense that someone put real thought into making each room feel like a little retreat. The bathrooms are modern where it counts, which is always a relief when you’re dealing with older buildings in Italy.
Breakfast Experience
The Italian buffet breakfast here is exactly what you’d hope for — fresh pastries, good coffee, and local touches that remind you where you are. It’s not elaborate, but it’s done well, and there’s something to be said for starting your day with proper Italian breakfast items rather than the international hotel standard. The dining area has that same retro charm as the rest of the place, and honestly, it’s a nice way to ease into your Pisa adventures. You might even chat with other guests — the intimate size of the place makes that sort of thing natural.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to be both charming and practical. You’re not sacrificing comfort for character, which can sometimes happen with smaller properties like this. The location score speaks for itself — when couples are rating it 9.5, you know they’ve found something special for romantic getaways. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered a little secret in Pisa, somewhere that gives you stories to tell when you get home rather than just photos of the same tourist spots everyone else has.
Tuscany hotels keep guests close to Chianti cellars, thermal springs, and frescoed chapels.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Separate bathroom, no face to face meeting but very organised with information
The apartment was clean, tidy and hosted all the amenities required for a short stay. As it’s part of a B&B, a delicious wide ranging breakfast was available in the morning with a specified table for your room. The ‘living area’ outside the rooms had a fridge, sofa and tea/coffee on hand. We really liked the layout on the living space that you see upon arrival. The shower tends to take a while to warm up but give it time! We figured this out eventually.
A priority for us was the ability to leave our luggage in storage for the day which the host kindly provided to us! This enabled us to explore Pisa with ease during the one day we had.
The apartment is very close to the leaning tower, around 6 minutes walk, and many restaurants/bars/shops. 20 minutes walk from the centrale train station. We recieved great recommendations on arrival and appreciated the easy communication with the hosts.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this apartment and had a great stay!
Retro B&B is very nicely decorated, with large room and big bathroom , comfy beds , everything was very clean ,and it was very easy to check in.
What could be improved: Very simple plain breakfast (plain croissant ,toast, chocolate spread, and salami, black coffee, water, juice ), which is not what we'd expect but lots of coffee shops around..
Easy access and lovely walk from Pisa Centrale
The decor is my favourite colour
What could be improved: Nothing really
What could be improved: Perhaps a later check-out time, but so far 10 a.m. seems to be standard at places we've stayed in Italy, whereas in other countries it is 11 or noon.
What could be improved: Can't think of a thing.
What could be improved: Only one cup in the room even though 2 people and no glasses for water. There was a kettle but no tea/coffee left in room. Soap dispenser was empty.
