I mean, you’re literally steps from the Duomo, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist circus at your doorstep every morning. The Santa Maria Novella neighborhood has this perfect balance where you feel like you’re in the heart of Florence without the constant selfie-stick dodging.

The building itself has that authentic Florentine charm that a lot of newer hotels try to fake – we’re talking original stone walls, those impossibly high ceilings that make you wonder how they heated these places centuries ago, and windows that actually open (thank God, because August in Florence is no joke). What I really appreciated was how they’ve modernized things without losing the character. The rooms feel genuinely Italian, not like some corporate designer’s idea of what Italian should look like. The beds are actually comfortable too, which – let’s be honest – isn’t always a given in historic buildings. I stayed there during peak season in July, and while you’ll hear some street noise during the day, the thick walls keep things surprisingly quiet at night.

The staff gets it, you know? They’re not just handing you a tourist map and calling it a day. The guy at the front desk told me about this tiny enoteca around the corner on Via de’ Rondinelli that I never would have found otherwise – best aperitivo spot, and the locals actually go there. Parking is… well, it’s Florence, so forget about driving if you can help it. But the train station is an easy walk, and you can literally walk to the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, and all the major sites. Actually, that’s the real magic of this place – you’re in the middle of everything but you’re staying somewhere that feels like it belongs to the city, not just planted there for tourists. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting genuine Florence character with modern comfort, and the location means you can stumble back from dinner in Oltrarno without needing to navigate public transport or hunt for taxis.

  Very communicative staff and so friendly. We were given a warm welcome on arrival by Arthur after communicating with the residence via WhatsApp. Bed was extremely comfortable and the location is perfect for exploring Florence on foot. We really appreciated the water machine in the hallway – it's so rare to have unlimited access to cold still and sparkling water and it really made our stay so comfortable. Room was perfectly cleaned every day.
