So I stumbled across PopArtment while looking for something different in Florence – you know how most hotels there feel like they’re stuck in some Renaissance time warp? Well, this place is actually refreshing. It’s tucked away on Via Alfredo Catalani, which honestly I’d never heard of before, but it turns out to be this quiet residential street just a few blocks from Santa Maria Novella station. Perfect if you’re arriving by train, though I’ll warn you – dragging luggage over those cobblestones is still a workout.

The name gives it away, but PopArtment really leans into the art thing without being obnoxious about it. The rooms have this clean, modern vibe with splashes of color that actually work together (I was half-expecting some garish mess). What I loved most was how they managed to make it feel contemporary while still fitting into the Florence vibe – no easy task, believe me. The staff genuinely seemed to know their stuff about the city, not just the usual tourist traps. When I asked about good aperitivo spots, they pointed me toward this little place on Via Nazionale that I never would’ve found otherwise.

Location-wise, you’re in Santa Maria Novella, which means you can walk to pretty much everything that matters. The Duomo’s maybe fifteen minutes on foot, and you’ve got the covered market – Mercato Centrale – really close by. But here’s the thing I really appreciated: you’re just far enough from the absolute chaos around the main sights that you can actually get some sleep. The street’s pretty quiet at night, though you’ll still hear the occasional scooter (it’s Italy, after all). The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s solidly good without being perfect. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but everything works the way it should, the Wi-Fi actually functions, and the breakfast situation is decent enough. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprises with the room, and honestly, sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re dealing with Florence’s summer crowds and trying to hit the Uffizi before noon.

  Beutiful spasious room, not far from the city ce ter. Very clean and comfortable. Should be ok fir a long stay as well. We parked 30 min by walk in a clean spacious parking near the Univercity for 20 euro per day. Not too bad for Firenza.

  Good location, friendly staff, spacious room for a family, big bed, close to a tram station (4 stops from center),good restaurant five minutes walk nearby,.
