You know what struck me first about Poggio Belvento? It’s not actually in Suvereto town center – it’s tucked up in San Lorenzo Alto, which honestly makes it so much better. The drive up through those winding cypress-lined roads feels like you’re discovering some secret hideaway that the tour buses haven’t found yet. I mean, you’re technically only about 10 minutes from Suvereto proper, but it feels like you’ve escaped to your own little corner of Tuscany.

The place has this weathered stone facade that looks like it’s been part of the landscape forever, though you can tell they’ve done some serious restoration work. When you walk in, there’s this gorgeous smell of old wood and that particular scent of Tuscan countryside – sort of herbal and earthy at the same time. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star in this region: exposed beams, terracotta floors, and windows that frame the rolling hills perfectly. Actually, if you can swing it, try to get one of the rooms facing west – the sunset views over the vineyards are absolutely ridiculous. The only minor thing is that the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms (this is rural Tuscany after all), but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point?

What really sets this place apart is how the staff seems to genuinely know the area – not just the obvious tourist spots, but the good stuff. They pointed me toward this tiny enoteca down in Suvereto where the owner makes his own pecorino, and to a hiking trail that leads to these Etruscan ruins most people never see. The breakfast is solid too, with proper local honey and those incredible Tuscan pastries, though it does get pretty busy around 9 AM when everyone emerges at once. The pool area is perfect for afternoon reading – quiet, well-maintained, and positioned so you’re not staring at the parking lot. Speaking of parking, it’s free and there’s actually enough space, which isn’t always a given at these converted countryside properties. The whole vibe is relaxed in that effortless Italian way – not stuffy, but clearly well-run. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself lingering over dinner on the terrace, watching the light change over the vineyards, and suddenly realizing you’ve been there for three hours. With a 9.2 rating, I’d say they’ve really figured out how to balance that authentic Tuscan experience with the comfort level most travelers actually want.

  We were very late on arrival but even at night the service was absolutely great. From then on it was only getting better. The 360° view on the property is breath taking! The owners and staff are so friendly. They really make you feel like home and gave us great tips on what to visit.
  We could also eat at the Poggio Belvento and the food is delicious. We appreciated that we could talk to the chef and to get to know local food. This was a perfect stay, we couldn't have asked for more

  – excellent location, on the top of a tuscan hill, silence area, feeric view
  – overall good cleanliness
  – good breakfast although it could be a bit more diversified (incl. some vegetables)
  – newly built/renovated location, everything is new inside
  – nice hosts, a family which did all they could to meet our expectations (even though they do not speak English, but Italian only, nevertheless we managed to understand each other since we're speaking a bit of Italian)
  – professional receptionist (Marta) which seem to be involved in every aspect of running this business, we hope she is correctly paid for all her efforts
  – Mila – a german shepherd so fluffy and sweet, she likes to be pet and gets angry when you stop doing it
  
  What could be improved: Improvement points:
  – diversifying the breakfast & increase the quantities
  – offer the possibility to replace the mattress with a tougher/stiffer one. The mattresses are a bit too soft for some and may cause back pain
  – mount mosquito nets to the windows

  Bei unserem diesjährigen Urlaub in der Toskana in der Unterkunft Poggio Belvento haben wir 11 herrliche Tage verbracht. Die Lage ist einzigartig, auch wenn die Zufahrt noch etwas steinig ist. Bau der Straße ist aber für nächstes Jahr geplant. Die Unterkunft war super. Ein sehr schön renovierter für die Toskana typischer Bauernhof. Das Grundstück wurde liebevoll angelegt. Die Besitzer und auch die Angestellten sind immer super freundlich und fürsorglich. Das dort angebotene Abendessen wird frisch zubereitet, ist Landes typisch und sehr lecker. In der Umgebung können viele schöne Orte besichtigt werden und bis zum Meer sind es ca. 25 km.
  Sehr imposant und interessant ist auch das 7 min entfernte Weingut PETRA.

  De rustige ligging en het prettige contact met het personeel (Paula en Marta).
  Fijne bedden, een prima ontbijt. Prachtig uitzicht.
  Het is pas het tweede jaar dat deze B&B bestaat, ze zijn nog allerlei zaken aan het verbeteren en perfectioneren. Mooi om te zien dat ze er alles aan willen doen om hun gasten in de watten te leggen.
