Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Palagina la dimora? It’s tucked away on Via Grevigiana in a way that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour buses haven’t found yet. I mean, Figline Valdarno isn’t exactly on everyone’s Tuscany hit list, but honestly – that’s kind of the point. This 4-star place sits in what used to be a traditional Tuscan villa, and the owners have done this thoughtful renovation where they kept all the character (those thick stone walls, the original terracotta floors that creak just right) while actually making it comfortable to stay in. The lobby smells like that perfect mix of old wood and fresh lavender, and there’s this immediate sense that you’re somewhere real, not some corporate hotel chain trying to fake Italian charm.

The rooms are what I’d call “authentically elegant” – if that makes sense. Mine had these massive wooden beams overhead and windows that looked out toward the Chianti hills, which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you came to Tuscany to see. The bed was firm in that European way that takes a night to get used to, but the linens were genuinely nice quality. What I really appreciated was the attention to small stuff: good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually worked, and – this might sound weird – but the WiFi was solid throughout the building. The staff runs the place like they actually care about it, which you notice in little things like how they remember your name and the fact that they stock local wines in the honor bar instead of generic bottles.

Here’s the thing about the location that makes it work so well – you’re about a 15-minute drive from the medieval center of Figline, where there’s this fantastic Saturday market and a couple of family-run trattorias that locals actually eat at. But you’re also positioned perfectly for day trips to Greve in Chianti (maybe 20 minutes) or even Florence if you don’t mind the drive. The hotel provides decent parking, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re navigating these narrow Tuscan roads with a rental car. Breakfast is served in what used to be the villa’s original dining room, with windows overlooking their small garden, and while it’s not elaborate, everything tastes like it came from nearby farms rather than industrial suppliers. The 8.7 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without trying to be flashy about it, and you leave feeling like you experienced authentic Tuscany rather than a sanitized version of it.

  Its a wonderful place, amazing views. The pools were so refreshing. The rooms super clean and nice traditional Italian villa. I went with 2 kids and they were extremely happy. Activities are amazing and people giving them are super nice. I would really recommend this place specially if you want to take time off.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing i would say is restaurant has opportunities, is not bad but a little expensive. The. La carte menu has few options and are not the best we tried in Italy. But its ok.

  Palagina La Dimora has always held a special place in my heart. Fifteen years ago, I experienced the villa’s unique charm, where every detail reflected a profound sense of history and tranquility. 
  
  I recently revisited and noticed that some aspects, such as the doors, are showing signs of wear. While these may seem minor, they are integral to the villa’s character and the comfort of its guests.
  
  I kindly urge you to consider preserving and maintaining the villa’s features that make it so special. Ensuring that Palagina La Dimora retains its timeless beauty will allow future guests to experience the same sense of peace and authenticity that has touched so many.
