You know what struck me first about NH Collection Firenze Porta Rossa? The entrance is so understated you could easily walk right past it on Via Porta Rossa – which is exactly what I love about it. This isn’t some flashy hotel screaming for attention; it’s tucked into this narrow medieval street like it’s been there forever (and honestly, parts of it probably have). The building itself is this gorgeous mix of old Florentine stonework and modern touches that actually work together, which… let’s be real, doesn’t always happen in these historic renovations.

The location is absolutely perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting it. You’re literally steps from the Mercato Nuovo – you know, the one with the bronze boar everyone rubs for luck – and about a three-minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. I mean, you can grab your morning coffee and be staring at the Arno before most tourists have even figured out how to work their hotel room coffee machine. The Santa Maria Novella area is ideal because you’re central enough to walk everywhere that matters, but you’re not stuck in the chaos around the Duomo. Plus, the street itself is pedestrian-only during most of the day, so you don’t have to deal with the usual Florence traffic madness.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to keep the authentic Florentine character while making everything actually comfortable. The rooms have these beautiful original details – exposed beams, stone walls in some cases – but the beds are genuinely good and the bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile. The staff clearly knows their stuff too; when I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just hand me a generic list but actually asked what I was in the mood for and steered me toward this tiny trattoria on Via del Sole that I never would have found otherwise. Oh, and here’s something practical – if you’re arriving by car, parking in this area is basically impossible, but they can arrange spots at nearby garages. It’s not cheap, but honestly, nothing in central Florence is. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it gets all the important stuff right and then some. If you want to wake up in the heart of Renaissance Florence without sacrificing comfort, this is your spot.

  Room was amazing a wonderful mix of old and new. The bed was very comfortable. The staff who checked us in was excellent and we were treated to an upgrade and champagne! That was not expected! Really was in awe that I stayed in a property that was once a home and the oldest hotel in Italy!
