Modern Art Studio in Florence
First Impressions
Walking up to Modern Art Studio in Florence, you immediately get the sense that this isn’t your typical hotel. Located on Via delle Porte Nuove in the Santa Maria Novella district, it’s actually more like staying in a curated gallery space that happens to have beds. The building itself has that understated Florentine elegance — you know, the kind where the exterior doesn’t scream for attention but once you’re inside, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. This four-star property has earned its 8.7 rating honestly, and I can see why couples especially gravitate toward it.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Santa Maria Novella is one of those areas where you feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting it. You’re close enough to the main train station that arriving with luggage isn’t a nightmare, but far enough from the tourist crush around the Duomo that you can actually breathe. I mean, you can walk to the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella in about five minutes, and the Arno is just a pleasant stroll away. What I really appreciate is how this location puts you near some of the city’s better local spots — the kind of places where Florentines actually eat and drink, not just the tourist traps.
The Space Itself
The room I stayed in felt more like an artist’s loft than a hotel accommodation. The modern art theme isn’t just a marketing gimmick — there are actually thoughtful pieces throughout, and the design has this clean, contemporary feel that somehow works perfectly within Florence’s historic context. The space is well-designed for couples (which explains that 8.6 location rating from pairs), with enough room to spread out but intimate enough to feel cozy. Honestly, the attention to detail in the furnishings and layout shows someone really thought about how people actually use a space when they’re traveling.
Practical Perks
Here’s something that’ll save you headaches — they have private parking available. If you’ve ever tried to navigate Florence’s ZTL zones with a rental car, you know this is basically gold. The fact that recent guests rated the location so highly (8.7) makes sense when you consider how rare it is to find a place that combines authentic neighborhood vibes with actual convenience. You’re not sacrificing accessibility for character here, which is pretty unusual in a city where you often have to choose one or the other.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both distinctly Florentine and refreshingly modern. You’re not staying in a museum piece or a generic international hotel — it’s something in between that actually works. The art studio concept isn’t just aesthetic; it creates this creative, inspiring atmosphere that makes you want to explore the city differently. Couples particularly seem to connect with the intimate scale and the way the space encourages you to slow down and actually experience Florence rather than just checking off monuments. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself lingering over morning coffee, planning your day around discovery rather than obligation.

.It was conveniently on the ground floor (with bars on the windows if you wanted to leave them open, but we preferred the airco, (efficient but quiet enough) being 37C outside . It's nice that there is a small recess with trees in front of the entrance of the apartment, so you're a few metres away from the street and don't hear the road traffic.
There is a bus stop close by (17, 23) and the recommended parking to book by yourself is about 100m away (20€/24h). The hop-on hop-off bus stop nr4 (line A) is basically at the end of the street.
There are a few restaurants within a few hundred metres walk too.
The host replied quickly to our questions .which was appreciated.
Close to a bus stop.
