Michael’s got this knack for making his cozy apartment feel like you’re staying with a friend who just happens to live in one of Tuscany’s most perfectly preserved walled cities.

The space itself is exactly what you’d hope for in the heart of Lucca – authentic without being stuffy, comfortable without trying too hard. The apartment sits right in the thick of things, which means you’ll hear some street life (especially during the evening passeggiata when locals take their traditional stroll), but it’s the good kind of noise that makes you feel connected to the rhythm of the city. What really impressed me was how Michael’s equipped the place with everything you actually need, not just the stuff that looks good in photos. There’s a proper coffee setup – crucial when you’re in Italy – and the kitchen has real dishes, not those flimsy tourist rental plates. The 9.8 rating makes total sense when you realize it’s these thoughtful details that separate a great stay from just another booking.

But here’s the thing about this location that you won’t fully appreciate until you’re there – you can walk Lucca’s famous city walls in about ten minutes from the front door, and trust me, that evening wall walk becomes addictive. During the day, you’re surrounded by the kind of local shops and cafes that don’t feel like tourist traps because, well, they’re not. The Piazza dell’Anfiteatro is practically around the corner, and unlike some historic city centers that feel like outdoor museums, this neighborhood actually lives and breathes. Michael clearly knows his city too – I got the sense he’s one of those hosts who can point you toward the osteria locals actually frequent, not just the ones with English menus. The whole experience feels less like staying in a rental and more like having a base in a place where people have been living well for centuries. That’s worth something, especially when you’re trying to soak up authentic Italian life rather than just checking landmarks off a list.

  There’s nothing I didn’t love about the property. If I could buy the apartment and live there permanently I would. It felt like home and I cannot express how great the location is. Some reviews talked about having to go up steps but they weren’t bad. Also you can’t expect most European apartment buildings to have elevators that’s just not common. Also some people complained about the noise, but again, you can’t have an apartment in the city center without noise. Honestly I didn’t think it was ever that noisy. Closing the shutters blocked out 90% of the “noise”. I spent so much time looking at apartments in Lucca and I feel very confident I made the perfect choice with this one!

  Simply perfect. The apartment was spacious, beautifully furnished and spotless. As soon as we opened the door we noticed the fresh smell and even the bedsheets smelled nice. There was a bottle of wine, biscuits and apples on the table as a welcome gift which we found particularly special. The communication with the host was fantastic and we felt very welcome. The location was awesome, a bit of a walk from the train station but an easy one. We couldn't believe that this place was actually also the cheapest option on Booking at the time as it was certainly the highlight of our whole trip. Highly recommended.
