Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve walked past La Locandiera on Via Della Scala probably a dozen times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I was kicking myself for not booking it sooner. It’s tucked into this gorgeous palazzo that’s been converted into a B&B, and from the outside you’d think it’s just another beautiful Florentine building — but step inside and you realize the owners actually know what they’re doing here.
The location is one of those “locals know” spots that tourists stumble onto by accident. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella station, which sounds touristy but actually works in your favor because you can dump your bags and be exploring within minutes. More importantly, you’re right in the thick of the Oltrarno scene without the chaos of the Duomo area. I mean, Palazzo Strozzi is around the corner, there’s this little osteria called Il Latini that locals actually eat at (not just tourists), and you can cut through to the Arno along these narrow streets that most people never see. The morning routine here is something else — you’ll hear the espresso machine firing up around 7 AM, and there’s this subtle energy as the neighborhood wakes up that you just don’t get in the hotel zones.
What really got me was the attention to detail without all the fussy hotel nonsense. The rooms feel like staying in someone’s well-curated home — think original frescoed ceilings, but with modern bathrooms that actually work. The breakfast setup is refreshingly honest: proper Italian coffee, fresh cornetti from the bakery down the street, and none of that sad continental buffet situation. The staff (I think the owner’s family runs it?) actually remembered my name and had genuine recommendations, not the scripted tourist traps. They told me about this little wine bar, Procacci, that’s been serving the same truffle sandwiches since 1885 — and it was literally two blocks away. During my stay in September, the place was buzzing but never felt crowded, and I noticed they seem to attract a mix of travelers who’ve done their homework rather than the typical tour group crowd. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the street can get a bit lively on weekend nights — Florence isn’t exactly a quiet city anyway, but if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe request a room facing the courtyard. That said, the energy dies down after midnight, and honestly, it just feels like you’re part of the city rather than isolated from it.

La Locandiera is a beautiful B&B, with everything we needed. It is well located close to the station & within walking distance to the main attractions of Florence. The breakfast offers plenty of choice & the croissants are delicious! The owner is a lovely, helpful lady. Highly recommended.
What could be improved: Nothing!Superb – Can from Turkey – 6 June 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is very close to the train station and the city center; we were able to walk everywhere easily, the location was excellent. Silvia was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. Our room was spacious and had a separate dressing room. It was also very clean. We were very comfortable with our small child — thank you!
What could be improved: The hair dryer in the room didn’t work very well. Other than that, there was nothing we didn’t like.I was presented with a beautiful room. It was clean and comfortable. The service was perfect. Everything with a personal – Elizaveta from Sweden – 6 June 2025 (10/10)
The room was clean and comfortable. There was an air conditioner,a toilet and a shower. The location is great,it’s close to both the train station and to the city centre. Just a 15 min walk to the Duomo. The service was wonderful. An extra bonus for the served breakfast in the morning.
An exceptional B & B in Florence! – Nancy from United States – 4 June 2025 (10/10)
This is one of the most exceptional B&B’s that we have ever stayed at! The innkeeper, Silvia, is incredibly welcoming, helpful and prepares one of the best breakfasts we have had on our travels! She even delivers it at a time we selected each morning and prepares a cooked breakfast that we have chosen from an extensive menu! The inn is located in a great neighborhood that is within close walking distance to all the major sights! We look forward to staying at the inn again on our next trip to Florence!
What could be improved: There was nothing that we didn’t enjoy about the inn!Very good – Joanne from Canada – 28 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location only 5 minutes from the railway station & tram station (direct route to & from the airport via T2). We were welcomed by Sylvia a very friendly host. Our room was perfect for our 4 night stay. Sylvia brought us breakfast in our room each morning at a time to suit us – a really great selection of food for breakfast. Would highly recommend La Locandiera for a Florence city break.
