You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Tuscany, but La casa nel castello e il giardino segreto genuinely surprised me. The name sounds almost too whimsical to be real – “the house in the castle and the secret garden” – but honestly, it delivers on that promise in ways I didn’t expect. It’s tucked right on Via Cavour, which if you know Suvereto at all, puts you smack in the heart of this medieval hilltop town that most tourists breeze past on their way to more famous spots. Big mistake on their part, actually.

The place feels like someone’s incredibly stylish relative decided to open their historic home to guests. I mean, you’re literally staying within ancient castle walls, but it’s not one of those sterile “heritage hotels” where you’re afraid to touch anything. The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world character – think exposed stone and beamed ceilings – with modern comfort that actually works. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, and the bathroom had excellent water pressure (trust me, not always a given in restored medieval buildings). But here’s the thing that really got me: that secret garden they mention? It’s not just marketing fluff. There’s this incredible private courtyard area where you can sit with morning coffee or evening wine, completely sheltered from the world. The acoustics are amazing – you hear birds and maybe distant church bells, but somehow the usual town sounds fade away.

What I love about staying here is how it connects you to Suvereto’s rhythm. You’re a two-minute walk from Piazza Gramsci where locals gather for aperitivo, and you can easily explore the narrow streets without dealing with tourist crowds. The owner clearly knows the area inside and out – they gave me recommendations for this tiny enoteca that I never would have found otherwise, plus tips for hiking trails in the nearby Metallifere hills that don’t show up in guidebooks. Parking can be a bit tricky since the historic center has restrictions, but they sort that out for you during check-in. The only minor thing I’d mention is that walls this old mean you might hear your neighbors occasionally, but it’s not disruptive – just part of the authentic experience. If you’re looking for a base to explore this part of Tuscany that feels genuinely special rather than touristy, and you want to stay somewhere with real character that doesn’t sacrifice comfort, this place absolutely nails it. Plus, being in Suvereto means you’re perfectly positioned for wine tours in the Maremma region, which is honestly underrated compared to Chianti.

  Ich bin so glücklich, Diana und ihre Familie kennengelernt zu haben und durch unsere gemeinsame Leidenschaft und Werte sofort eine Verbindung gefunden zu haben. Es gibt keinen besseren Ort auf der Welt, um sich zu entspannen und einen schönen Sommerabend bei einem kühlen Bier oder sogar einem Glas Wein zu genießen, als die Toskana im Sommer.

  Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt. Alles wurde ausführlich erklärt und der Check In war unkompliziert. Das Haus ist gemütlich und toll gelegen. Die Gastgeberin ist super zuvorkommend. Gerne wieder!

  Dieses Häuschen ist ein Kleinod in Suvereto. Mitten in der Altstadt gelegen ist man sehr in Ruhe und genießt das Flair einer kleinen, ursprünglichen Stadt, die einiges an Restaurants und Bars zu bieten hat. Unsere Gastgeberin hat sich die größte Mühe gegeben, uns mit Rat und Tat zu unterstützen. Das Haus selbst ist liebevoll eingerichtet, ein Willkommensgruß wartete auf uns, der Garten ist eine kleine Oase. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder und können es nur empfehlen.
  
  What could be improved: Die Stühle waren drinnen und draußen waren leider unbequem. Ansonsten gab es wirklich nichts.

  Bardzo ładny, duży dom w średniowiecznym miasteczku. Mieliśmy sypialnię, salon, dwie łazienki na górze i kuchnię na dole. Z kuchni wychodziło się na cudowny, tajemniczy ogród. Wydajna klimatyzacja przydała się w gorące dni i noce. Dwie łazienki dawały komfort. W kuchni wszystko, co potrzeba do gotowania i spożywania potraw. Bardzo dużo talerzy, misek, kieliszków, garnków itp. Widać, że jest to prawdziwy dom, w którym bywają gospodarze, ze swoimi dziećmi. W pokojach zdjęcia, obrazki, wszystko urządzone z dużym gustem, miało się wrażenie odwiedzin u przyjaciół bardziej niż wynajmowania apartamentu na wakacje. Przy przyjeździe prezencik, śniadanie i zestawy kosmetyków. Kontakt bezproblemowy z właścicielką przez whatsApp. Z romantycznego miasteczka Suvereto można w 20 minut dojechać na piękne plaże, lub w pół godziny na prom na wyspę Elbę. W miasteczku liczne restauracje, imprezy kulturalne.
  
  What could be improved: Warto wiedzieć, że parking (gratisowy) jest kilkaset metrów od domku, ale za to w domu panuje cudowna cisza, bo ruchliwe ulice są daleko. Dla osób starszych i małych dzieci schody do kuchni mogą być problemem, również komary w ogródku nie są miłe, ale przecież to nie jest wina gospodarza. Gospodarze zapewniają środki odstraszające te owady.
