Il Carmine Charme & Terrace with AC
Lucca, ItalyFirst Impressions
When you climb up to the third floor of this historic building on Piazza del Carmine, you’ll understand why Il Carmine Charme & Terrace with AC has such devoted fans. The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by how they’ve managed to blend old-world Italian charm with modern comfort — and honestly, that’s not always easy to pull off in these medieval buildings. The space feels intimate and carefully curated, like staying in a well-traveled friend’s apartment rather than a typical hotel room.
The Heart of Lucca
You really can’t get more central than this — I mean, you’re literally sitting on one of Lucca‘s most charming squares. What I love about this location is that you’re close enough to everything that matters (the cathedral, the city walls, those incredible little restaurants tucked into narrow streets), but Piazza del Carmine itself has this lovely, lived-in feel that’s not overrun with tourists. Couples seem to get this immediately — there’s something romantic about having your morning coffee while watching local life unfold below. And here’s the thing that’ll make you smile: free parking in the center of an Italian historic city. Trust me, that’s practically unheard of.
The Room and Terrace
The accommodation itself strikes that perfect balance between character and comfort. The air conditioning works beautifully (crucial during those sweltering Tuscan summers), and the rooms have enough period details to remind you where you are without feeling like a museum. But honestly, it’s the terrace that steals the show. There’s something magical about having your own outdoor space overlooking the rooftops of Lucca — especially in the evening when the light turns golden and you can hear the gentle hum of the city settling in for the night.
Living Like a Local
What struck me most was how quickly you start to feel like a temporary resident rather than a tourist. Maybe it’s because you’re staying right where locals actually live and work, or maybe it’s the way the morning light filters across the piazza. You’ll find yourself popping down to the local bar for espresso, chatting with shopkeepers, and discovering those little details that make Lucca so special. The property sits perfectly for exploring on foot — which is really the only way to experience this city properly.
Why Guests Love It
People keep coming back to Il Carmine Charme & Terrace with AC because it delivers something increasingly rare: an authentic experience that doesn’t sacrifice comfort. The location score speaks for itself, but it’s more than just being central — it’s about being in the right kind of central, where you’re part of the neighborhood fabric. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or just want to experience Lucca the way it’s meant to be experienced, this place gets it right. And that free parking? Well, that’s just the practical cherry on top of what’s already a pretty sweet deal.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Didn't realise there were 95 steps up to the apartment. Francesco helped with the luggage. Unless you were able to do steps, this would not be a good choice of apartment. For us, it was perfect. It was worth the climb.
The location was perfect, near restaurants and shops but in a quiet area for sleeping.
What could be improved: We loved everything!!
Francesco is a very helpful host, driving us to the railway station when we left. We had arrived by car and he directed us to free parking which was within easy walk of the apartment.
What could be improved: Not that it was a problem for us but the apartment is up 3 stories with no lift so if you have mobility problems it might be an issue.
What could be improved: Nothing , will definitely return , one of of best places we have stayed across the globe!
The owner was really helpful. Picked us up snd drove us back to the trainststion
What could be improved: Running out of toilet paper at an inconvenient time and not knowing where to any spare) other than later going down from 3rd floor to the supermarket next door to acquire some)
What could be improved: Not a dislike. It something for travellers to be aware of. Three long flights of stairs to get to the apartment.
