Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Sina Astor? It’s got this quietly confident thing going on – like it doesn’t need to scream “luxury” at you because it already knows what it is. Sitting right on Viale Carducci, you’re basically a two-minute walk from Viareggio’s main beach stretch, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re far enough from the crazy weekend crowds that cluster around the Bagno Balena area. I mean, you can still hear the occasional Vespa puttering by (this is Italy, after all), but it’s not the chaos you get closer to the pier.
The rooms have that understated Italian elegance – think clean lines and actual quality linens, not the flashy gold-everything you might expect. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep the old-world charm without making you feel like you’re staying in your nonna’s house. The breakfast situation is honestly pretty solid too; they do this thing with local focaccia that’s way better than the usual hotel croissant routine. Staff-wise, they actually seem to know the area – when I asked about getting to the Cinque Terre for a day trip, the guy at the front desk didn’t just hand me a brochure, he told me which train times would beat the tourist rush. Small thing, but it matters.
Here’s what really won me over though: the location gives you options. Sure, you’re close to the beach promenade where everyone’s doing the evening passeggiata, but you can also easily walk to Via Regia where the locals actually eat – there’s this little osteria called Da Romano that the hotel staff quietly recommended, and honestly, it was the best meal of my trip. The hotel itself feels like it gets this balance between being accessible to the touristy stuff but not being trapped in it. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during peak summer (July and August get pretty intense), but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually approve of – not too flashy, not trying too hard, just genuinely good at what it does.

Reviews
Superb – Nicola from Italy – 14 July 2025 (9/10)
– The location on the boulevard is great, also good walking distance towards the city centre
What could be improved: – The room I was in -corner on the sea side- had a strange shape, which had a 2 person bed with the side against the wallGreat location, friendly helpful staff, good food offering in clean, welcoming surroundings. – Alan from United Kingdom – 2 July 2025 (8/10)
Staff delightfully friendly in the main and could not do enough for you; Kledji and Guilia deserve special praise for their genuine warmth towards guests. Dining room pleasant enough and we dined alfresco every night allowing us to people watch and enjoy lovely sunsets over the beach. It was a shame a first rate lounge and indoor pool were very rarely used by guests in our experience. Plenty of choice at breakfast and as we chose half board, the evening meals consisted of a mixture of buffet and or a small range of a la carte offerings, the latter seemingly often fish dominated which is not my personal preference. Did not matter though as there was always something from the hot/cold buffet to choose.
What could be improved: Two minor criticisms. Buffett items were always so well presented but rarely if at all labelled so guests did not know the name of the dish and what was being served up.
The lovely glass balustrade suffered from the effects of the setting sun which would reveal extensive cleaning wipe marks/smears where cleaning fluids/water had perhaps dried prematurely. It did detract from the otherwise lovely dining room ambienceLovely location, hotel facilities felt outdated – Danica from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (7/10)
Location was great
What could be improved: It didn’t have the 5 star feel to it as all facilities felt a bit outdated. We expected better quality hotel as it was priced high.Holiday in Viareggio – Lee from Czech Republic – 15 June 2025 (10/10)
Wonderful staff and location plus a very nice breakfast
What could be improved: Nothing, it is a lovely place and we hope to come again soonGood location. Comfortable room with big bathroom. – Marcin from Germany – 25 April 2025 (8/10)
Good location to go for beach. They have indoor swimming pool so we could compensate bad weather but with big but see section what I didn’t like. Room with balcony with view to the see – from the side but still good. Quite good breakfast.
What could be improved: Lack of bathrobe in the room. Not sufficient space in parking. Hilarious and dramatic in same time setup of indoor swimming pool. I have never been in hotel were you need to entry swimming pool via gym and you need head cup! Worse to say. Change room is one level down so you need to walk back via gym to change room. Lack of sunbeds and you are enforced to entry pool zone via automatic shower… view of parents holding baby and their stuff and surprise about enabling shower priceless 🙂 architect of this place probably was never using a swimming pool or was a simple idiot.Had a one night stay reprieve from walking hol, rained so needed some comfort. Accommodation very comfortable and warm. – Jeanette from United Kingdom – 24 April 2025 (8/10)
Comfy and modernised. The spa section where the jacuzzi and steam room were could be made more appealing, but it was lovely to use.
What could be improved: NothingLovely friendly hotel – Alison from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (10/10)
The pool and spa were excellent
See you soon – Nohra from Switzerland – 8 April 2025 (9/10)
The parking somewhat uncomfortable, the wellness too dark and jaccuzzi not so clean.
Pool and gym amazing. This is our second time staying here, and we would recommend it to our friends. – Edna from Italy – 2 April 2025 (10/10)
We liked that we were able to walk out the door and take part in the festivities of carnevale.
We didn’t like that we were on the side of the building where it got very hot in the afternoon, and the room was a bit too uncomfortable to be in.Exceptional – Mate from Croatia – 25 March 2025 (10/10)
Always like to come back to this place. Spacious rooms with amazing sea view. Big bathroom with nice bathtub. Indoor pool with wellness. Underground garage. Amazing breakfast. Friendly and profesional personnel.
