Hotel Lungarno – Lungarno Collection
Florence, ItalyYou know what? I’ve walked past Hotel Lungarno probably a hundred times over the years, and it wasn’t until I actually stayed there that I realized what I’d been missing. This place sits right on Borgo San Jacopo – which, honestly, most tourists never even find because they’re too busy fighting crowds on the Ponte Vecchio. But that’s exactly why this spot works so well. You’re literally steps from all the chaos, but tucked away on this quieter stretch where actual Florentines still live and work.
The building itself is this beautifully restored medieval thing, and I mean, you can feel the history in the thick stone walls and the way the floors creak just slightly in that charming old-world way. What really gets me though is how they’ve managed to make it feel genuinely luxurious without going overboard with the fancy stuff. The rooms have these massive windows that look out over the Arno – and I’m talking about real views here, not some tiny glimpse you have to crane your neck to see. When I stayed in October, I’d just leave the windows open in the morning and listen to the city waking up across the water. There’s something about being right on the river that makes Florence feel more… I don’t know, intimate somehow.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case at hotels like this. When I asked about good places for aperitivo that weren’t tourist traps, the concierge sent me to this little spot on Via Santo Spirito where I ended up chatting with locals for two hours. And parking – look, if you’re driving in Florence (which I don’t really recommend), they’ll sort you out, but honestly just take the train and walk everywhere. The hotel’s location means you can hit the Uffizi early before the crowds, then escape back to the Oltrarno side when the centro storico gets overwhelming around lunchtime. One small thing – the elevators are tiny, which is pretty standard for these old buildings, but worth knowing if you’re traveling with massive suitcases. Also, rooms facing the river can get a bit of noise from the lungarno traffic, but it’s more of a gentle city hum than anything jarring. Actually, I kind of liked it – reminded me I was in the heart of this incredible city and not some sterile hotel bubble.

What could be improved: The barrier on the tub did little to keep water from splashing on the floor. It was gross to step on a wer towel everyday. I was really surprised they designed it this way.
I can’t single out an employee or a department. Everyone makes you feel special in their own way from reception, to the concierge, to the restaurants, lobby, breakfast area, housekeeping and door service.
Thank you and until next time.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Everything was so expensive, but it was 5 star so to be expected. It was disappointing that the roof top terrace was closed as we were looking forward to meals and evening drinks there.
