Here’s what I love about the location — you can walk everywhere that matters in Lucca without breaking a sweat. The famous city walls where locals bike and jog? Two minutes away. Piazza dell’Anfiteatro with its stunning oval shape built on ancient Roman ruins? Maybe five minutes on foot. Despite being so central, Via Del Fosso isn’t one of those tourist-clogged streets where you can’t move. It’s got that perfect balance of accessibility without the chaos, which probably explains why couples rate the location a whopping 9.8.

The Room Experience

I’ll be honest — I was skeptical about the “very comfy beds” claim because, well, every hotel says that. But they actually deliver here. The room I stayed in had this perfect firmness that somehow worked whether you’re a side sleeper or back sleeper. The design leans classic Italian without being stuffy, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase properly (something you don’t always get in historic European hotels). The windows open to let in that gorgeous Tuscan air, which beats air conditioning any day when the weather’s right.

Breakfast here is honestly impressive — they’ve got this buffet setup that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of. Continental, full English, Italian, vegetarian, gluten-free, even American options if you’re craving pancakes in Tuscany. What I appreciated most was the quality of the Italian selections — proper prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and bread that’s clearly from a local bakery. The coffee? Well, it’s Italy, so of course it’s excellent.

The thing about Hotel Ilaria is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying too hard to be trendy. You’ve got parking available right at the hotel, which is actually a big deal in a walled city like Lucca where driving can be tricky. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward the best gelato spots (trust me, this matters).
