You know what struck me first about Hotel Grifone Firenze? It’s tucked away on Via Gaetano Pilati in this quieter pocket of Florence that most tourists never stumble across – I mean, you’re still close to everything, but you’re not dealing with the madness around the Duomo every time you step outside. The Lungarno del Tempio area has this more residential feel, honestly, and after spending days dodging tour groups in the historic center, coming back here felt like retreating to your own little corner of the city. The building itself has that solid, understated elegance that Italian hotels do so well – not flashy, but you can tell they’ve put thought into the details. Check-in was smooth, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out, which I always appreciate.

The spa element is what really sets this place apart, though. I’ll be honest – after walking 15,000 steps a day on cobblestones, having a proper place to unwind wasn’t just nice, it was essential. The spa facilities aren’t huge, but they’re well-designed and never felt crowded when I was there (granted, this was in October, so your mileage may vary during peak summer). The meeting spaces make sense too – I saw business travelers using them throughout my stay, and there’s something refreshingly practical about a hotel that serves both leisure and business guests without making either feel like an afterthought. My room was on the third floor, and while it wasn’t massive, it had everything I needed and then some. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in European hotels), and the bathroom was modern without feeling sterile. What I really loved was how quiet it stayed at night – you get the occasional scooter buzzing by, but nothing like the chaos you’d hear staying right in the centro storico.

The location ended up being perfect for how I like to explore Florence. You’re about a 15-minute walk to the Oltrarno district, which honestly has better restaurants and fewer crowds than the main tourist areas. The Arno is right there when you want to walk along the river, and getting to places like Santo Spirito or the Pitti Palace is easier from here than from most hotels. There’s a decent coffee bar around the corner that locals actually use – always a good sign – and the neighborhood has that authentic Florence vibe without being too far from the must-see sights. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I were mixing business with pleasure or just wanted a base that felt more like Florence and less like tourist central. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s polished and professional without being stuffy, and that 8.5 rating makes sense when you factor in the spa, the location, and the overall experience.

  We were given a “mini apartment” type room in the courtyard. Well equipped & spacious. Wonderful scent of jasmine in the evening 🤗
  The staff were friendly & helpful. There was a facility in the foyer to refill your drinking water bottles.
  As we didn’t want Spa treatments, we were able to book time in the swimming pool only for a small extra charge.
  
  What could be improved: It was a little bit away from the centre but there was a regular bus service about 50m away.

  The hotel and its facilities are beautiful and modern, we were given a free upgrade as we arrived slightly before check in, and we ended up in a suite with a living room! We paid to use the spa in the evening which was amazing, the pool was perfect temperature and the other facilities in there were great (sauna, etc)

  Comfortable rooms and bathrooms, staff friendly and obliging. Car parking was easy and secure. Good choice of breakfasts. Approximately 40 minute walking distance to main attractions in Florence. Jazz Bistro next door to hotel was great. Would definitely return.

  The staff were really friendly and super helpful. The bed was comfortable, and I loved the small pastry selection and coffee/tea at the reception. We had to arrive there earlier than our check in time so we stayed in the reception and it was really nice and comfortable. The location was not at the very center of Florence but we took the bus every time and it was around 13 minutes to get to the center. Just make sure you don't get fined in the bus!
