You know what struck me first about Hotel Embassy? It’s tucked away on this quiet side street – Via Jacopo Da Diacceto – that honestly feels like a little secret pocket of Florence. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the chaos around Santa Maria Novella station, but the moment you turn onto this street, it’s like someone hit the volume button down. The building itself has that classic Florentine elegance without being stuffy about it – you can tell they’ve put real thought into maintaining the original character while actually making it comfortable for modern travelers.

The lobby feels more like stepping into a well-appointed friend’s apartment than a hotel, which I genuinely loved. There’s this warm, lived-in quality that a lot of four-star places try too hard to achieve. The staff actually remembers your name after day one (rare these days), and they seem to know Florence inside and out – not just the tourist spots but the kind of places locals go for aperitivo or where to find the best gelato at 10 PM. My room faced the internal courtyard, so zero street noise, and honestly, that matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to recover from trudging around cobblestones all day. The beds are properly firm – none of that sinking-into-quicksand feeling you get at some European hotels.

What really sets this place apart is the location intelligence, if that makes sense. You’re close enough to walk to the Duomo in about eight minutes, but you’re not dealing with the tourist swarm right outside your door. The Mercato Centrale is practically around the corner, which means you can grab amazing coffee and pastries without the markup you’d pay near the major sights. I found myself using the hotel as a perfect base camp – you can store your bags, recharge (literally and figuratively), and head back out without feeling like you’re fighting the crowds just to get home. The neighborhood has that authentic Florence vibe where you’ll see locals doing their shopping and kids playing in the small piazzas. Sure, it’s not the fanciest place in the city, but there’s something refreshingly honest about it. The 8.5 rating makes total sense – it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to actually experience a city instead of just checking boxes.

  On the third day of our stay we were moved to adjacent rooms with a shared balcony and sent a complimentary bottle of Prosecco all in time to celebrate my 60th birthday

  Air conditioner is behind a curtain, so it takes a long time to cool the room. Can’t open curtains as it’s a ground floor room and all privacy would be lost. Also the room has a very high ceiling so I expect this is also affecting the cooling.
  
  The biggest issue was the vicinity of the reception area to our door. It was literally right outside our door and we could hear every conversation.
  
  The walkway from one area of hotel to the other was also right outside the door, so it was pretty noisy.

  The entire staff was wonderful. The breakfast was good. They even packed our bkfst to go since we had to leave at 630am. The rooms were clean and nice. Shower pressure was awesome. They have a patio courtyard we enjoyed time there as well. It was nice to have coffee in the room.
  
  What could be improved: There is only 1 road and there was always traffic. So it was difficult for a taxi or Uber to stop and pick us up.

  Very comfortable room and bed. Great choice of breakfast. The staff were al very friendly and spoke very good English. The standard of the hotel is what we are used to here in the UK. It was a 5 minute walk to train station and 10 -15 minutes to the centre but we managed ok. Lots of good restaurants and plenty of museums and places of interest. Would like to spend more time there.
  
  What could be improved: Beware of the mosquitos. Advise a good repellent to avoid being eaten alive!!
