Hotel Calimala Florence
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Hotel Calimala Florence? It’s tucked away on Via Lamberti in this perfect little pocket where you can actually hear yourself think, but you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Uffizi. I mean, I’ve stayed in Florence probably six times now, and finding that sweet spot between being in the thick of things and not having tour groups march past your window at 7 AM is honestly pretty rare. The building itself has this understated elegance β it’s not trying to be a palazzo or anything flashy, just solid Florentine architecture that feels like it belongs in the neighborhood.
The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than fancy. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in European hotels, let’s be honest), and they’ve got these little touches that show someone was paying attention β good lighting for reading, proper outlets near the bed, and the AC works well enough for those brutal July afternoons. What really got me was the attention to soundproofing; even though you’re right in the centro storico, it’s surprisingly quiet at night. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and the water pressure is solid. I stayed on the third floor and had this partial view toward the Duomo that made my morning coffee ritual feel pretty special.
But here’s the thing that really sets this place apart β the staff actually knows Florence. Not just the obvious tourist stuff, but they pointed me toward this little enoteca on Via dei Georgofili that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was looking for decent breakfast before the museums opened, they didn’t just rattle off the hotel breakfast menu but suggested Bar Rivoire opens early and makes proper cappuccino. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience Florence beyond the guidebook highlights. The location means you can walk to everything that matters β Ponte Vecchio is maybe five minutes, you can cut through to Piazza della Signoria in three, and honestly, being this close to the Uffizi means you can pop back to your room between museum visits, which is clutch during summer. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it gets all the important stuff right and then some.

Special thanks to Angelo P, Stefano, Angelo D, and Davide for their exceptional service. They made me feel very welcome and taken care of. A special mention goes to Davide, who went above and beyond by giving me a detailed itinerary and excellent tips for visiting Genoa. His guidance truly enhanced my trip.
I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!
