You know what hit me first about Hotel Belvedere Di San Leonino? The name sounds way fancier than it actually feels – and I mean that in the best possible way. This place sits right in the heart of Castellina in Chianti, tucked into this little hamlet called San Leonino that honestly feels like someone’s well-kept secret. When you’re driving up (and yes, you’ll need a car unless you’re planning some serious hiking), you’ll pass these rolling vineyards that look almost too perfect to be real. The hotel itself has this weathered Tuscan stone thing going on that screams authentic without trying too hard.

The thing about staying here is that you’re actually living in proper Chianti territory – not some tourist version of it. I mean, you can walk to actual working vineyards where they’re not just putting on a show for visitors. The rooms have this rustic-meets-comfortable vibe with terracotta floors that stay cool even in summer heat, and honestly, the views from most windows are just ridiculous. You’ll wake up to cypress trees and vineyard rows stretching toward hills that change color depending on the time of day. The staff seems to genuinely know the area too – they’ll tell you which local enoteca has the best Chianti Classico tastings (hint: skip the obvious tourist spots in town center) and which hiking trails actually lead somewhere worth seeing.

What really gets me about this place is how it strikes that perfect balance between being refined enough for a proper getaway but still feeling like you’re experiencing real Tuscany. The breakfast spread features local cheeses and honey that taste like they came from farms down the road – because they probably did. Pool area’s lovely without being over-the-top, and it’s positioned so you’re not staring at other guests all day. The little details matter here: wine glasses that feel substantial in your hand, linens that smell like they’ve been dried in actual Italian sunshine, and that satisfying quiet you get when you’re far enough from main roads but close enough to civilization. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no elaborate ceremonies, just genuine warmth from people who seem to actually enjoy their work. Sure, the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise when you’re surrounded by countryside this beautiful.

  The hotel is lying on the top of the hill with gorgeous views and a sunset do die for! There are outdoor seating groups facing all directions from this hotel. The pool was clean and of perfect size.
  
  But the very best thing about this place is the people, all the way from the receptionist, the ladies handling the amazing breakfast, the most attentive and pleasant waiters and the chefs which cooks some of the greatest food of Italy!
  
  We could recommend this place enough, we will come back. 5 days was not enough, but I think we would have that feeling no matter how many days we would have spent here.

  This is a very special hotel with a great setting. The views of the countryside are incroyable. The reception was great. Nadia showed us our room and arranged for dinner at the hotel. Our room was large, very clean, bed comfortable, the AC and internet were excellent. The pool was great and very clean. The restaurant was excellent. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We hated to leave and we will definitely return.

  Stunning location and views, absolutely lovely facilities and access to vineyards and small towns nearby. Nice place for running or cycling routes in the hills and the sunset was beautiful. The food is exceptional for both breakfast and dinner, would absolutely return in future

  Lovely property, great space, great views. Large room, comfortable bed. Friendly staff, excellent breakfast with patio view. Amazing restaurant. It’s a hidden gem, really.
  
  What could be improved: Our room was close to the kitchen, so we could hear some noise late in the evening and early in the morning. Other than that, it was a perfect stay.
