Florence Rental
So I stumbled across Florence Rental completely by accident – was actually looking for something else entirely but the location on Via dei Neri caught my eye. I mean, you’re basically living in the heart of medieval Florence here, and honestly, the address alone should tell you everything. This narrow street runs between the Uffizi and the Bargello, which means you’re literally surrounded by some of the most incredible art in the world, but also – and this is what I love – you’re on one of those authentic Florentine streets where locals actually go about their daily business.
The building itself has that worn elegance that only comes from centuries of Tuscan living. You know what I’m talking about if you’ve wandered these streets before – thick stone walls that keep things cool even in August, windows that frame perfect slices of terracotta rooftops, and that particular echo your footsteps make in the stairwell. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, despite being so central. Via dei Neri isn’t one of those tourist thoroughfares, so once the day-trippers head back to their buses, you get this amazing sense of having the old city to yourself. The morning light filtering through those ancient shutters is something else entirely – I found myself getting up early just to watch how it moves across the room.
Here’s the thing about staying here though – you’re going to walk everywhere, and I mean everywhere. The Ponte Vecchio is maybe three minutes away, the Duomo is a pleasant stroll, and you can hit Santa Croce without breaking a sweat. But more importantly, you’re close to places like All’Antico Vinaio (get there early, seriously) and those little family-run spots tucked into side streets that you’d never find if you were staying out in the newer districts. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s comfortable and well-maintained without being flashy, which honestly suits Florence better than some over-the-top luxury place would. That 8.3 rating makes sense too; it’s not perfect (the stairs can be a workout if you’re on a higher floor, and like most historic buildings, the rooms vary quite a bit), but there’s something genuinely special about falling asleep to the sounds of this ancient city and waking up ready to dive right back into it.
