So you know that main pedestrian street that connects the Duomo to the Signoria? Via Calzaiuoli – yeah, that’s where FH55 Hotel Calzaiuoli sits, and honestly, when I first walked up to it, I thought “this is going to be either amazing or a tourist trap nightmare.” Turns out it’s definitely the former, though you’ll pay for the privilege of being literally in the heart of everything.

The thing about this place is that it’s actually tucked into a historic building (I mean, everything in Florence is historic, but this feels properly old), and they’ve done this clever thing where the lobby feels intimate rather than grand – which works because you’re not trying to impress anyone, you just want to drop your bags and get out there. The rooms are what I’d call “European compact” but done really well, with those heavy curtains that actually block out the morning light and air conditioning that works (crucial in July, trust me). What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night – yeah, you’re on a busy street, but it’s pedestrian-only and the windows are solid. I stayed in a room facing the street and could barely hear the evening crowds below.

Here’s what you need to know about the location – it’s almost stupidly convenient. The Uffizi is literally a three-minute walk, Ponte Vecchio maybe five, and you can see the Duomo from the hotel entrance. But more importantly for actual daily life, there’s a small alimentari around the corner on Via dei Tavolini where you can grab water and snacks without paying hotel prices, and the staff there actually knows which gelato places are worth your time (skip the ones with the bright colors piled high – locals will tell you the same thing). The hotel breakfast is decent enough, though honestly, you’re in Florence – walk two blocks and find a proper café for your cornetto and cappuccino.

The staff here gets it – they’re not overly chatty but they know the city, and when I asked about dinner reservations, the concierge actually called ahead to a place near Santo Spirito that wasn’t even in my guidebook. That’s the kind of service that makes a difference when you’re trying to squeeze everything into a long weekend. One small thing – the elevator is tiny, like fits-two-people-and-their-luggage tiny, but the building’s only six floors so it’s not a big deal.

What really sold me on this place was coming back after a long day of museums and crowds, and feeling like I was staying somewhere that belonged in the neighborhood rather than just dropped into it. The 9.1 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Florence, but it nails the things that actually matter when you’re exploring the city. If you want to be in the absolute center of everything and don’t mind paying a bit extra for the privilege, this is your spot.

  This is literally in the heart of florence. Everything was walkable. Although we had a car but we barely used it because walking to everything was so easy. Also the valet service they offered was convenient because i didn’t have to go out myself and walk 0.5 miles to get the car or to drop off. Breakfast was good and staff was extremely courteous and very helpful.

  I enjoyed my bathtub,my robe,my multiple daily cleaned towels the room was cleaned to a high standard as was the turn down service at night with water and chocolate. The varied breakfast, coffee of any kind was offered,as were the cakes..loved the daily apero in the lobby and the entire desk staff were all fantastic kind and accommodating w every request.
  The entire staff would accomplish any request in a speedy professional excellence.
  On arrival the porter delivered my bags to my room before I entered.
