You know what’s funny about Fattoria Barbialla Nuova? I almost drove right past it the first time – it’s tucked away on Via Casastrada, which honestly feels more like a country lane than a proper address. But that’s exactly the point. This isn’t some cookie-cutter hotel; it’s an actual working farm that happens to let you sleep over, and once you wind down that dusty road past the olive groves, you’ll understand why it scored a 9.6 rating.

The thing about staying at a fattoria is that you’re basically getting the full Tuscan experience without any of the tourist trap nonsense. I mean, you wake up to actual roosters (fair warning if you’re not a morning person), and the smell of fresh bread drifting from their kitchen around 7 AM. The rooms are what you’d expect from a renovated 4-star farmhouse – stone walls, wooden beams, that sort of rustic charm that actually feels authentic rather than staged. The Wi-Fi works fine, which honestly surprised me given how remote it feels, and parking is never an issue since you’re literally in the middle of countryside.

What really sets this place apart is the location – Montaione is one of those hilltop towns that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet. You can walk to the center in about fifteen minutes (it’s uphill, but not terrible), and there’s this little osteria called Da Baccio where the locals hang out. The family running Barbialla knows everyone in town, so they’ll point you toward the good stuff – like where to find the best pecorino or when the weekly market happens. During truffle season in fall, you’ll actually see hunters heading out with their dogs from the nearby trails. It gets pretty quiet in the evenings, which is either perfect or boring depending on what you’re after. The summer months bring more activity, but it never feels crowded since the property is spread out across all that farmland. Check-in is refreshingly personal – no corporate efficiency here, just genuine conversation about where you’re from and what brought you to this corner of Tuscany.

  Alquilamos la casa para pasar unos días toda la familia y no pudimos estar mejor. El personal súper agradable y atento y la casa es una maravilla, es todo lo que te imaginas de un verano en la Toscana. Muy tranquilo y privado para disfrutar en familia. Está muy bien ubicado porque nos encontrábamos a una hora de casi todas las ciudades más emblemáticas cercanas y de la playa. Nos vamos muy contentos. Repetiríamos sin duda

  L'emplacement était parfait pour visiter Florence, Pise, Livourne, Sienne, San Gimignano et les vignobles. L'endroit était magnifique, ça été une belle expérience en campagne de la Toscane en plus d'avoir un compagnon pendant notre séjour, le chat de ferme Grappa 🙂
  
  What could be improved: Le seule reproche, je changerais les matelas, ils sont un peu trop fermes, mais nous avons eu quand même un bon repos :). Sinon l'endroit était propre, nous avions tout ce qu'il fallait pour cuisiner et avoir du bon temps.
