Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about the Cortona Shabby Chic House? It actually lives up to its name – and I mean that in the best possible way. Walking up Via Tarconte (it’s this narrow stone street that climbs gently from the main part of town), you’ll spot number 8 tucked between these medieval buildings that look like they haven’t changed in centuries. The whole shabby chic thing could’ve been cheesy, but honestly, they nailed it. Think weathered wood shutters, vintage furniture that looks like it came from someone’s beloved grandmother’s attic, and these gorgeous imperfections that make the place feel lived-in rather than staged.
The location is actually perfect if you want to experience Cortona like a local rather than just another tourist. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Piazza della Repubblica – close enough that you can grab your morning cappuccino without breaking a sweat, but far enough up the hill that you escape most of the day-tripper crowds. I loved that I could hear the church bells from Santa Margherita up the mountain, especially in the early morning when the town’s still quiet. The rooms have this wonderful mix of old Tuscan charm (we’re talking thick stone walls that keep things cool even in August) and modern touches that actually work. The beds are seriously comfortable – I’m talking about that perfect firmness that supports your back after a day of wandering cobblestone streets.
What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail that you don’t get at those generic hotel chains. The owner clearly gets that people come to Cortona to slow down and soak in the atmosphere. There’s this little courtyard area where you can sit with a glass of wine in the evening, and the whole setup just encourages you to linger. The breakfast situation is simple but thoughtful – fresh pastries, good coffee, and they’ll point you toward the best spots for dinner (seriously, ask them about the family-run places that don’t advertise to tourists). Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of town – I mean, we’re talking about medieval streets here – but they’ll give you the insider knowledge on where to leave your car without getting a ticket. The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places where everything just works without feeling overly polished or pretentious. If you’re the type who wants to wake up feeling like you’re living in Tuscany rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.

Fabulous location. Easy walk down to the main piazzas and close to the mini market and several restaurants, butcher etc. Everything you need for a two week stay. Our host, Laura, was fantastic and picked us up from the station and took us back down when we left. She responded immediately to any queries.
All the basics were there which was great as we ate in a lot of days.
We walked around the outside of the town every morning and a great location to start from to do a circuit ending up in the Parterre and back for coffee.
