Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Florence, and Condotta 16 just gets it right in a way that’s hard to explain. You walk up to this unassuming entrance on Via della Condotta – honestly, you might miss it if you’re not paying attention – and suddenly you’re in these gorgeous apartments that feel more like staying at a stylish friend’s place than some sterile hotel room. The building itself has that perfect Florentine thing going on where it’s clearly old but everything inside is sleek and modern without trying too hard.

What really sold me was the location, though I mean, you’re literally around the corner from the Uffizi. Not “walking distance” like hotels love to claim – actually around the corner. I could stumble back from dinner and be at my door in two minutes, which is pretty much unheard of in this part of the city. The street gets busy during the day (you know how it is with all the tourists heading to the galleries), but it actually quiets down nicely in the evenings. The apartments themselves are spacious – and I mean properly spacious, not Italian-hotel-room spacious – with kitchenettes that are actually functional if you want to grab stuff from the Sant’Ambrogio market and cook something up. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are modern, and there’s this attention to detail that you don’t always get. Little things like really good lighting and outlets where you actually need them.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood. When I asked about where to get good coffee that wasn’t a tourist trap, they pointed me to this tiny place on Via dei Neri that I never would have found otherwise. And parking – well, you’re in central Florence, so forget about that, but they’ll tell you exactly where the nearest decent parking garage is and how much it’ll cost you. The whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Like they’ve figured out how to make staying in the absolute heart of Florence actually pleasant instead of just convenient. You wake up, step outside, and you’re immediately in the thick of everything that makes this city incredible, but you’ve got this calm, comfortable space to retreat to when the crowds get overwhelming. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting it.
