Casalta Di Pesa
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Casalta Di Pesa, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away on a quiet country road. The building itself has this understated Tuscan charm — you know, weathered stone and terracotta that looks like it’s been part of the landscape forever. What immediately caught my attention was how peaceful everything felt, especially after driving through the winding roads of Castellina in Chianti. The free parking right on-site was a relief too, because let’s be real — finding a spot in this region can be a nightmare during peak season.
The Chianti Countryside Setting
The location is honestly what makes this place special. You’re right in the heart of wine country, but not in some touristy bubble where everything feels manufactured. I mean, you can walk out the front door and see actual vineyards stretching toward the horizon — it’s the kind of view that makes you want to grab a glass of wine and just sit there for hours. The property sits along the SR222, which locals call the Chiantigiana, and it’s basically the main artery connecting all the famous wine towns. From here, you can easily reach Greve in Chianti or Radda without dealing with crazy mountain roads.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect balance of rustic and comfortable that you hope for in Tuscany but don’t always get. The furnishings felt authentic — not like someone just ordered “Tuscan style” from a catalog. The windows opened wide to let in that incredible countryside air, and honestly, the silence at night was almost startling if you’re used to city noise. The bathroom was modern enough to feel fresh, but they kept original elements like exposed beams that reminded you where you were. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually worked.
Exploring the Area
Being here puts you within easy reach of some seriously good wineries that most tourists never find. The staff actually gave me directions to a family-run place about ten minutes away where I ended up spending an entire afternoon learning about their organic methods. Castellina in Chianti itself is worth the short drive — it’s got this medieval fortress vibe without feeling like a theme park. There’s also a great little market on Saturday mornings where locals actually shop, not just tourists buying overpriced souvenirs. The walking trails around the property are perfect for working off all that wine and pasta, and you’ll probably spot some wildlife if you’re quiet about it.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both secluded and accessible at the same time. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something about the combination of privacy and authentic Tuscan atmosphere that just works for romantic getaways. The 8.9 rating for location makes total sense when you experience it firsthand. You’re not stuck in some remote farmhouse where you need a GPS just to find dinner, but you’re also not dealing with tour buses and crowds. It’s that sweet spot where you can have genuine experiences while still having comfortable amenities to come back to.
Exploring Tuscany layers sunflower valleys, Renaissance masterpieces, and midnight gelato strolls.

We travelled in early September so the high, summer heat had relented (evenings were comfortable) but not sure how warm the apartment would be without AC in the summer?! These are "issues" maybe only for North Americans like us?!
