Casa Vacanze B&B Poggio Al Vento Toscana
Pozzo della Chiana, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Casa Vacanze B&B Poggio Al Vento? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – “windy hill” in Italian – because this place really does catch those gorgeous Tuscan breezes that make summer evenings perfect for sitting outside with a glass of wine. It’s tucked away on Via San Quirico in this tiny hamlet called Pozzo della Chiana, which honestly I’d never heard of before booking, but it’s one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The location is pretty genius, actually – you’re technically in Foiano della Chiana territory, but you’re far enough from the main drag that it feels properly rural without being isolated. I mean, you can still get to Cortona in about 20 minutes if you want your dose of tourist attractions, but most evenings you’ll probably just want to stay put and watch the sunset paint those rolling hills.
The B&B itself has that authentic farmhouse vibe without feeling rustic in an uncomfortable way – you know how some places try too hard to be “authentic” and forget about things like decent water pressure? Not here. The rooms are actually quite spacious, and whoever designed them understood that travelers need proper storage space and good lighting for reading. What really impressed me was the attention to details that matter: thick curtains that actually block morning light if you want to sleep in, and – this sounds minor but it’s huge – electrical outlets where you actually need them. The breakfast situation is lovely too, served on this terrace that overlooks the valley, though fair warning that it’s more Continental than full English, so don’t expect bacon and eggs. But honestly, when you’re looking out at those cypress-lined hills with fresh pastries and proper Italian coffee, you won’t miss the heavy stuff.
The whole area comes alive during harvest season if you’re visiting in late summer or fall – you’ll hear tractors in the distance and smell that earthy, grape-y scent that means serious wine is being made nearby. Even in spring it’s magical, with wildflowers everywhere and that soft light that makes every photo look like a painting. Parking is easy (always a relief in Italy), and the hosts are the kind of people who’ll actually draw you a map to their favorite local restaurant instead of just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it’s exactly what you hope for when you picture a Tuscan getaway: comfortable, authentic, and peaceful in a way that makes you understand why people fall in love with this part of Italy.

Guest Reviews
We traveled near by cities and come back in the evening.
strongly recommend!
What could be improved: nothing.
What could be improved: The breakfast room turned out to be closed, as it was not the season, would be good if that was announved beforehand.
I didn’t like the fact that our shower gel bottle was clearly mixed and was 90% water and barely had any soap in it, so we couldnt use it. Otherwise it was a great stay.
What could be improved: The only thing we didn’t like was terrible behaviour of people by the pool. We understand children, but adult parents jumping into the pool, shouting to each other, playing music, talking very loud all days, playing with many plastic swimming accessories, making mess, this is too much… This place is made for those who seek for silence and relax and it was not possible because of this behaviour of other guests by the pool everyday. If you are looking for quiet retreat, please consider there might be rude parents with small children who do not respect other guests by the pool. If not this, it would be 10/10.
Our vacation in Sebtember was perfect, thanks to Angela and this beautiful place.
What could be improved: It was pretty basic furnishing
What could be improved: Not much
