You know what really got me about Borgo Signature Rooms? The moment I walked through that heavy wooden door on Borgo Santa Croce, I felt like I’d stumbled into someone’s incredibly stylish Florentine apartment rather than a hotel. I mean, the name literally has “rooms” in it, not “hotel,” and that actually tells you everything you need to know about this place.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting it. You’re right in Santa Croce – not the touristy square part, but on this quieter street where you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning and old men playing cards at the corner café. The Basilica di Santa Croce is literally a three-minute walk, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you can also cut through the side streets and be at the Arno in about five minutes, or wander over to Sant’Ambrogio market (which is where actual Florentines shop, not just tourists). The neighborhood has this authentic energy that you just don’t get staying near the Duomo.

What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that feels personal rather than corporate. The rooms – and I stayed in one of their signature ones – have this beautiful mix of restored period features and modern comfort that doesn’t feel forced. The bathroom had these gorgeous marble details, and honestly, the shower pressure was better than my apartment back home. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters when you’ve been walking on cobblestones all day. There’s no elevator (it’s an old building, obviously), but the staff actually warned me about this when I booked and offered to help with luggage – small touch, but it shows they’re thinking ahead. The WiFi was solid, the air conditioning worked perfectly during my July stay, and the soundproofing was impressive considering you’re in the heart of the city.

The staff deserve a special mention because they strike this perfect balance between being helpful and not hovering. They gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t in my guidebook, told me which days the local markets were best, and even suggested taking an evening walk along the Oltrarno when the light hits the buildings just right. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold. The 9.6 rating honestly makes sense – I can’t think of anything significant to complain about, and I’m usually pretty picky about hotels. The only tiny thing is that the street can get a bit lively on weekend nights, but that’s Florence for you, and it quiets down by midnight anyway.

If you’re looking for a place that feels authentically Florentine without sacrificing comfort, and you want to be positioned perfectly for both the major sights and the real neighborhood life, Borgo Signature Rooms nails it. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though plenty of other travelers clearly have too – hence that stellar rating.

  Borgo was beautifully and tastefully furnished, conveniently located and super clean. Carlotta was welcoming and knowledgable – we were treated to prosecco and snacks on arrival and the breakfast was next-level delicious. We would love to visit again.

  This property was amazing in an an old world rustic charm way. It had everything that I needed, was super spacious and in a great location with a wine window just meters from the front door! The staff were so accommodating and couldn't do enough for me. The one thing that I would mention is that there is no lift, so pack light, however there is only one set of stairs to contend with so not too bad! A very comfortable and safe stay, would highly recommend!!

  You could not as for a better location, a better host and a better city than Florence. We were completely looked after the entire time with suggestions on places to visit, wonderful breakfasts and a beautiful room. There is a Wine Window right by the hotel if that’s what you like.
