Borgo Guelfo VIII
First Impressions
Walking up to Borgo Guelfo VIII on Via Faenza, you immediately get that feeling you’ve stumbled onto something special. This four-star boutique property sits right in the thick of Florence‘s historic center — I mean, you’re literally steps from the Duomo and all the major sights. The building itself has that classic Florentine charm with its stone facade, but what really caught my attention was how intimate it feels compared to the massive chain hotels you see everywhere else in the city.
The Heart of Renaissance Florence
Honestly, the location here is pretty much unbeatable. You’re tucked away on a quieter street, but San Lorenzo Market is right around the corner, and the Medici Chapels are maybe a three-minute walk. What I love about this spot is that you can actually walk to everything — the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, even Santa Croce — without dealing with buses or taxis. Plus, there’s something magical about stepping out your door in the morning and being surrounded by centuries-old architecture before the tour groups really get going.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in had this perfect blend of modern comfort and Florentine character. You know what impressed me most? The attention to detail — quality linens, good lighting for actually reading, and a bathroom that didn’t feel like an afterthought. Some of the rooms have views of the surrounding rooftops and bell towers, which honestly never gets old. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate during those sweltering summer months when Florence can feel like an oven.
Practical Perks
Here’s something that’ll save you a headache — they actually have private parking on site, which is basically like finding gold in central Florence. Most hotels in this area either don’t offer parking at all or send you to some garage halfway across the city. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood too, so when you ask for dinner recommendations, you’re not getting the same tourist traps everyone else suggests. They pointed me toward this little trattoria about five minutes away that I never would’ve found on my own.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of staying right on a major tourist thoroughfare. The couples who stay here seem to particularly appreciate this balance — there’s something romantic about having your own quiet corner of Florence while still being able to wander to dinner or evening strolls along the Arno without any planning. It’s the kind of place where you can actually imagine living like a local for a few days, rather than just checking sights off a list.
Hotel in Tuscany reservations surge before white truffle fairs when hilltown piazzas brim with foodies.

Guest Reviews
The local market is just behind the apartment, which is very nice to take the local fresh produce.
There is a small garden in the apartment, it’s very nice to have a breakfast under the sun in Florence
The outdoor space is great as is the space in the apartment for one couple. It is quiet and secure and the option to do laundry is great.
Cons: ZERO light in the kitchen area so it is very difficult to see,. The lighting in the bathroom is horrible… very very dim. There was no broom to sweep the floor after prepping snacks and food and no dish soap .
Our question/request for fresh towels (we were there one week) went unanswered.
The shower door does not slide well at all. The mound on the shower grout was abundant.
The floor is absolutely filthy turning feet black walking from bedroom to bathroom and it even felt grimy. There were no pillow cases for the extra pillows and no cover fir the duvet so really only had a sheet to sleep with.
very large
great balcony
