Borgo Etrusco
Scarlino, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Borgo Etrusco? The drive up to it – honestly, you’ll think you took a wrong turn somewhere around Scarlino because suddenly you’re winding through this almost untouched stretch of Tuscan countryside, and then boom, there it is. The place sits in Località Col Di Sasso, which locals just call “the hill,” and I mean… they’re not wrong.
What makes this 4-star spot special isn’t the usual stuff you’d expect. Sure, the rooms are lovely (that 8.7 rating isn’t just for show), but it’s more about how the whole place feels like someone’s wealthy Italian uncle decided to open his country estate to guests. The breakfast terrace looks out over rolling hills that change color depending on the time of day – I actually found myself getting up early just to watch the morning light hit the cypress trees. The staff here genuinely knows the area; when I asked about hiking trails, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map but walked me outside and pointed out specific paths, including one that leads to an old Etruscan settlement (hence the name, I guess).
Parking’s easy – there’s a proper lot, not like some of these historic places where you’re playing automotive Tetris. The rooms themselves have this rustic-elegant thing going on without feeling forced or touristy. Think exposed beams and terracotta floors, but with modern bathrooms that actually work. I stayed in September when the weather was perfect, though I imagine it gets pretty busy during peak summer months since it’s only about a 20-minute drive to the coast. The pool area is where most people hang out during the day, and honestly, why wouldn’t you? It’s got that infinity-edge thing happening with the Tuscan landscape stretching out beyond it.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – no road noise, no city sounds, just the occasional sound of wind through the olive groves. If you’re looking for nightlife, well, you’ll need to drive into Follonica or even Grosseto, but that’s kind of the point. This place is about slowing down and remembering why people fall in love with Tuscany in the first place. The restaurant does solid regional food too – their wild boar ragu was probably the best meal I had during my entire trip through the area, and I ate at some pretty fancy places in Florence.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Unica pecca la linea internet carente.
La pulizia impeccabile della casa e del giardino di tutto il borgo
La tranquillità e il
Silenzio
What could be improved: Il materasso del letto troppo duro
Appartamento pulito e spazioso
Bel terrazzo vista Borgo antico di Scarlino
What could be improved: Es gibt für 4 Personen immer nur 6 Teller, Besteck usw. Man muss immer sofort die Geschirrspülmaschine anstellen. Umweltfreundlicher wäre es, in ein paar mehr Teller zu investieren, um so Strom und Kosten des Geschirrspülers zu sparen.
What could be improved: Mi sarebbe piaciuto avere a disposizione un bel parco per bimbi, uno ben fatto. Il residence sarebbe perfetto.
What could be improved: Le parking est loin de la location, lorsqu’on revient chargés de courses, ce n’est pas pratique. La prestation reste coûteuse pour un séjour de 10 jours. Les guêpes à la piscine.
What could be improved: Unico Consiglio: posticipare di almeno un'ora la chiusura a della piscina, attualmente fissata per le 19. Almeno nel trimestre estivo.
What could be improved: No WiFi in the apartment
