You know what caught me off guard about Borgo Bottaia? It’s this beautifully restored farmhouse that feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s sophisticated family estate rather than a hotel. I mean, when you’re driving through Grassina – which honestly most people just pass through on their way to or from Florence – you don’t expect to find something this polished tucked away on Via Delle Fonti. The whole area has that authentic Tuscan countryside vibe without being touristy, and locals actually live here year-round, which I always take as a good sign.

The property itself has this wonderful lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake. The stone walls and exposed beams feel genuinely old (because they are), but everything’s been thoughtfully updated without losing that rustic charm. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re far enough from the main roads that you actually hear crickets instead of traffic, something that’s become pretty rare this close to Florence. The rooms have this perfect balance of comfort and character, with proper blackout curtains that’ll save you if you’re dealing with jet lag. Parking’s straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in Tuscany will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

Here’s the thing about staying in Grassina instead of Florence proper – you get to experience that slower Tuscan rhythm while still being close enough to hit the city when you want to. The 9.1 rating honestly makes sense when you factor in the genuine warmth of the staff (they actually remember your name after day one) and the fact that breakfast includes local pastries from a bakery in town, not some industrial hotel supplier. The outdoor spaces are lovely for evening wine, especially in late spring and early fall when the weather’s perfect and the tour groups have thinned out a bit. It’s the kind of place where you might extend your stay just because checking out feels like leaving friends behind.

  Accomodation was spotlessly clean. staff was very welcoming. peace and quiet. swimming pool was lovely. high ceilings were amazing indoors.

  We stayed for 3 nights in October, we were a group of 4 people and it was very comfortable for us, each room had its own full bathroom and a very cozy dining room, fully equipped kitchen. The views of Tuscan hills are amazing from the property. We saw some dears walking around the property😍You need a car to get there, the nearest village is about 25 min walk.

  Authentic farm house feel. Great facilities, incl. Washing machines, clothes lines, swimming pool was lovely, and a 15 – 20 min drive to Florence ( as close as you can park being outside the ZTL restricted zone). Use the Waze app to show where the ZTL zones are. Thanks, Luigi and the lovely staff.

  It’s beautiful, the scenery is stunning, the Borgo itself is like a fairytale location. It’s peaceful and very secluded. The apartment was traditional and that’s what we wanted. Comfortable and clean. Having your own outside space was wonderful to have a glass of wine in the evening looking at the exceptional views over Tuscany. we were treated like friends by the owner Luigi but also left to ourselves to enjoy our own space.

  We liked everything there. The place was more than amazing. The house was more than enough for us. We were 5 people. All the facilities are available in the kitchen and in the bathrooms. The washing room is outside the house, and it is available for everyone. There are many areas to park your car, which is recommended if you are planning to stay there, the nearest supermarket is about 20 min. Walk. About 5 min. In the car. There is a playground and a lot of walking areas. We visited in January so the weather and the view were amazing.
