You know what struck me first about Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort? It’s not actually in Porto Ercole proper – it’s tucked away in this quiet spot called Le Piane, maybe a 10-minute drive from the harbor. And honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. You get all the Monte Argentario magic without the summer crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM.

The place has this understated elegance that feels very Italian – not flashy, just really well done. I mean, it’s part of the Autograph Collection, so you’d expect quality, but they’ve managed to keep it feeling authentic rather than corporate. The rooms have these gorgeous views either toward the golf course (which is surprisingly lush for this part of Tuscany) or out toward the Mediterranean. Pro tip: if you’re not a golfer, don’t let that scare you off – the course actually makes for beautiful scenery and peaceful morning walks. The spa is where they really shine though. I’ve been to a lot of wellness places, and this one gets the balance right between serious treatments and that relaxed coastal vibe.

What I really appreciate is how they handle the practical stuff. Parking is straightforward – none of that nightmare you get in Porto Ercole’s tiny streets during peak season. The staff genuinely knows the area, so when you ask about hiking trails or which beach has the best sunset spot, you get real answers, not just whatever’s in the tourist brochure. Speaking of beaches, Feniglia is about 15 minutes away and it’s this incredible stretch of sand that most visitors miss because they’re all cramming onto the little coves closer to town. The resort’s restaurant does solid regional cuisine – nothing revolutionary, but they source locally and the wine list shows they actually care about Tuscan producers beyond the obvious names. Fair warning though: if you’re coming in July or August, book dinner reservations early because it fills up with both guests and locals. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge design or over-the-top service, but it nails what you want from a high-end Italian coastal retreat. You’ll leave feeling genuinely relaxed, not just Instagram-ready.
